SOMETHING OF A MONSTER: Brandon Duncan Unleashes a Nightmarish ’80s Pregnancy Horror This December
The ’80s are back—and they’re not here for nostalgia. They’re here to ruin you. Brandon Duncan’s psychological pregnancy nightmare Something of a Monster drops December 4, and the newly released trailer is an absolute gut punch of dread, paranoia, and small-town rot.
Set in 1980s North Carolina, the story follows Amelia (Ashley Bacon), a young woman whose life unravels after what appears to be a very real pregnancy suddenly… isn’t. When her overbearing in-laws ship her off to an isolated Catskills inn “for rest,” things go from concerning to unhinged. Amelia is stalked by a mysterious woman in the woods, plagued by sensations she can’t explain, and surrounded by locals far too invested in her body and her future.
The trailer teases a volatile mix of Inside, Rosemary’s Baby, and backwoods American Gothic—complete with that unmistakable ’80s haze of cigarette smoke, religious dread, and medical gaslighting. Bacon’s performance looks gripping, grounded in the terror of someone being told again and again that what she’s experiencing isn’t real… while something in the shadows says otherwise.
Is Amelia carrying something? Was something taken? Or is she becoming the next link in a cycle of exploitation tied to a vanished woman the town refuses to talk about?
Whatever the reality is, Something of a Monster is shaping up to be one of the bleakest and most intriguing genre surprises closing out the year. Conspiracy, hallucinations, predatory figures in the woods—this one has all the makings of an ’80s-set psychological spiral that hits disturbingly close to home.

Look for Something of a Monster when it begins streaming everywhere December 4, 2025.
