Festival Favorite Somnium Secures Theatrical and Digital Release from Yellow Veil Pictures
After haunting audiences on the festival circuit for over a year, Racheal Cain’s sci-fi horror debut Somnium is finally coming home. Starring Chloë Levine, the film will open in Los Angeles on August 29 (with an advance screening August 28), hit New York City on September 6, and arrive on Digital HD across major platforms—including Apple TV, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home—on September 9.
First premiering at the 2024 Chattanooga Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, Somnium quickly became one of the most talked-about genre indies of the year. It went on to win the Silver Audience Award at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and earned Chloë Levine a Best Actress win at FilmQuest 2024. Cain began writing the film in 2011, with production unfolding in two phases: flashback scenes were shot in 2018, while the present-day narrative came together between 2021 and 2022.

Somnium follows Gemma (Levine), a small-town transplant who moves to Los Angeles after a painful breakup, determined to chase her Hollywood dreams. To get on her feet, she takes an overnight job at Somnium, a mysterious sleep clinic promising cutting-edge dream research. But as her nights grow stranger and her reality blurs, Gemma uncovers disturbing truths lurking within the clinic’s walls, plunging her into a terrifying spiral where ambition collides with dread.
Alongside Levine, the cast features Peter Vack (Mozart in the Jungle), Will Peltz (Unfriended), Johnathon Schaech (Suitable Flesh), and Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things). Speaking ahead of the release, Cain said, “I couldn’t have dreamt Somnium would end up in theaters just miles from where I began writing it. This film has clawed its way into existence over the last decade, and I hope viewers find it was worth the wait.”
With its chilling dreamscape aesthetic and festival acclaim, Somnium solidifies Cain as a filmmaker to watch. Opening theatrically in LA and NYC before streaming nationwide on September 9, this is one horror gem you won’t want to sleep on.
