SWEETNESS Screens in Los Angeles Ahead of Digital Release from Saban Films

On Tuesday, February 10, 2025, Saban Films partnered with Collider to host a special Los Angeles screening of Sweetness at the Alamo Drafthouse DTLA. The event brought out horror fans and industry guests for an early look at the new psychological thriller ahead of its digital debut.

Writer-director Emma Higgins attended the screening alongside members of the film team, including Maryze Bernard, Kat Webber, Martin Macphail, Fuliane Petikyan and Olivia Swayze. Guests mingled with the creative team during a pre-screening reception before settling in for the film, which was followed by a Q&A moderated by Collider’s Steve Weintraub.

Sweetness centers on a devoted superfan who discovers her rock star idol is spiraling into addiction and decides to intervene, regardless of whether he wants her help. What begins as concern quickly transforms into obsession when she kidnaps him in a misguided attempt to “fix” him. The film navigates the thin line between admiration and control, exploring how devotion can curdle into something far more dangerous when entitlement and fantasy take over.

Starring Kate Hallett, Herman Tømmeraas, Aya Furukawa, Justin Chatwin, Steven Ogg and Amanda Brugel, the film leans into psychological tension and claustrophobic horror rather than spectacle. Higgins’ story taps into modern celebrity culture and parasocial relationships, asking what happens when someone convinces themselves that captivity is an act of love.

The Los Angeles screening underscored the film’s unsettling tone, with audience reactions reflecting just how uncomfortable and timely the material feels. Sweetness arrives on Digital and On Demand February 13, and we’ll have our full review soon here at Horror Movies Uncut.
