Sydney Sweeney Leads a Bloody Chase for Stolen Artifact in Modern Western Thriller

Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser in modern western thriller chasing Native artifact
Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser get caught in a chaotic desert standoff in this wild new western.

Sydney Sweeney and Zahn McClarnon Collide in Wild New Western Thriller—Trailer Promises Blood, Artifacts, and Uncontrollable Desire

Lionsgate just dropped the trailer for their latest modern western, and if Last Stop in Yuma County left you breathless, get ready for another gritty, genre-blending bullet ride. This one’s got the scorched-earth chaos of The Hedonist mixed with a scathing portrait of ambition, identity, and the prices we pay for ownership—of land, of culture, and of our own decisions.

This untitled project boasts a scorching ensemble led by Sydney Sweeney, playing a shy but sharp waitress with nothing to lose and big dreams riding on a stolen Native American artifact. Teaming up with a haunted military vet played by Paul Walter Hauser, she finds herself in a multi-directional war with a criminal fixer (Eric Dane) and his smooth-talking boss (Simon Rex), who traffic in Western relics like they’re NFTs.

But don’t get it twisted—this isn’t just a cops-and-robbers desert chase. The real weight drops when Zahn McClarnon enters the fray as the leader of an Indigenous group out to reclaim what was stolen. His presence alone flips the moral compass of the film and gives the whole affair a deeper sense of urgency and purpose. Add in Halsey, delivering serious mystery-woman-on-the-run energy, and you’ve got a tangled web of trauma, survival, and power plays.

Oh, and there’s a kid. The kind of wide-eyed, whip-smart young performer who might just steal the whole damn movie. Keep your eyes on this one—they’re giving breakout energy, the kind we haven’t seen since Beasts of the Southern Wild or Minari.

The trailer is a nonstop thrill ride—sun-blasted, dust-choked, and laced with a wild sense of humor. Think Americana meets No Country for Old Men, but with a sharper bite and a more inclusive soul. This is about obsession, redemption, and the deeply flawed ways we all try to hold on to something—be it love, legacy, or just a little slice of freedom.

Produced by BRON Studios, Saks Pictures, Rhea Films, and Hercules Film Fund, this one’s coming in hot and heavy. Expect bullets, betrayals, and more than a few unexpected gut-punches when this lands. Stay tuned for release details and get ready for one of the year’s most unexpected indie gems.

A gallery of dynamic characters clash over the possession of a rare Native American artifact in this wildly entertaining modern-day western. After the artifact falls onto the black market, a shy waitress with big dreams (Sydney Sweeney) teams up with a lovelorn military veteran (Paul Walter Hauser) to gain possession of it, putting them in the crosshairs of a ruthless criminal (Eric Dane) working on behalf of a Western antiquities dealer (Simon Rex). Bloodshed ensues when others join the battle, including the leader of an indigenous group (Zahn McClarnon) and a desperate woman fleeing her mysterious past (Halsey).
