‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ Launches Summer Festival Tour Ahead of August Release
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is heading across North America this summer with a newly announced “Camp is in Session” screening tour ahead of its August theatrical release through MUBI.
Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, the film stars Emmy-winning actress Hannah Einbinder alongside Gillian Anderson. The ensemble cast also includes Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Quintessa Swindell, and Jack Haven.
Produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B Entertainment, the film marks Schoenbrun’s fourth feature following I Saw the TV Glow, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, and A Self-Induced Hallucination.
The announcement follows the film’s world premiere as the Opening Film of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, where the project generated significant conversation among arthouse and genre audiences.
As part of the “Camp is in Session” tour, Schoenbrun and Hannah Einbinder will attend select screenings and Q&A events throughout the United States and Canada.
The current tour lineup includes:
NewFest — New York City, June 1
Provincetown International Film Festival — Provincetown, Massachusetts, June 11
Frameline — San Francisco, June 27
Fantasia International Film Festival — Montreal, July 17
Coolidge Corner Theatre at Camp Rocky Woods — Medfield, Massachusetts, July 18
Tomorrow Theater — Portland, July 25
The film follows a young filmmaker tasked with reviving the fading Camp Miasma slasher franchise after years of declining sequels and dwindling fan interest. Her attempt to reconnect with the franchise’s original star slowly descends into a surreal and violent spiral involving obsession, identity, desire, and horror mythology.
The premise continues positioning the project within both meta slasher territory and psychological horror, combining summer camp aesthetics with Schoenbrun’s ongoing exploration of fandom, media obsession, identity, and emotional transformation.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma opens theatrically on August 7.
