Jermaine Fowler in sci-fi thriller Terrestrial
Jermaine Fowler’s Allen Perkins begins questioning whether his interviewers even read his book before his Time Genesis television appearance spirals into an on-air blowout in Terrestrial.

Success, fractured friendships and a rapidly deteriorating grip on reality collide in Terrestrial, a new science-fiction thriller arriving in theaters across the United States and Canada on Oct. 23.

Directed by Steve Pink, Terrestrial stars Jermaine Fowler, James Morosini and Pauline Chalamet in a story centered on four former college friends whose long-overdue reunion takes an increasingly strange turn.

At the center of the film is Allen Perkins, an aspiring science-fiction writer whose career appears to be on the verge of breaking through. Ahead of the film’s theatrical release, audiences can get an early introduction to Allen through his first television appearance promoting his debut novel, Time Genesis.

Ahead of the film’s theatrical release, a new clip offers a funny introduction to Fowler’s Allen Perkins during his first television appearance promoting his debut novel, Time Genesis. What should be a straightforward interview quickly begins to unravel when Allen is hit with a series of peculiar questions about the book. Increasingly convinced that his interviewers haven’t actually read it,

Allen’s frustration boils over until the segment erupts into an on-air blowout. The awkward exchange provides an early glimpse at Terrestrial‘s sense of humor and Fowler’s increasingly exasperated character, while setting the stage for a story in which Allen’s sudden success may be considerably more chaotic than he anticipated.

What begins as an opportunity for the group to reconnect soon spirals out of control. Allen finds himself struggling to maintain his sense of reality as the weekend progresses, with increasingly inexplicable and otherworldly dangers making it more difficult to determine exactly what is happening around him.

The premise places Allen’s identity as a science-fiction writer in an intriguing position. A character accustomed to inventing impossible worlds is suddenly confronted with circumstances that challenge his ability to distinguish reality from something potentially far stranger.

Pink directs Terrestrial from a screenplay by Samuel Johnson and Connor Diedrich. Pink’s filmmaking credits include the comedies Hot Tub Time Machine and About Last Night, while Terrestrial moves into science-fiction territory with a story built around friendship, ambition and an unraveling perception of reality.

Fowler leads the cast alongside Morosini and Chalamet. Fowler’s recent genre work includes The Blackening, while Morosini has appeared in projects including I Love My Dad and Chalamet has starred in The Sex Lives of College Girls.

The film is produced by Molly Gilula, Josh Jason, Molly Conners, AJ Bourscheid, Austin Lantero, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Walden and Luca Baiser.

The newly highlighted Time Genesis television appearance provides another piece of the film’s world ahead of release, introducing Allen through the kind of career milestone that should represent the beginning of something positive. Instead, his story appears headed toward a much more destabilizing question: what happens when a science-fiction writer can no longer be certain the impossible things surrounding him are fiction?

Terrestrial opens in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on Oct. 23.
