A cult classic from the grindhouse era, "The Crippled Masters," is set to captivate audiences once more with its newly restored release on Blu-ray and DVD on July 23rd. This special collector’s edition, arriving during Disability Pride Month, has been meticulously restored from original 35mm archival elements by Film Masters.

Originally released in Mandarin in 1979 as "Tiān cán dì quē" and later in the U.S. in 1982, "The Crippled Masters" is renowned for its inventive fight scenes and compelling storyline. Directed by Chi Lo (aka Joe Law), the film follows two martial arts artists who, having been disabled by a villainous master, unite to seek revenge. The protagonists, portrayed by Sung-Chuan Shen (aka Jackie Conn) and Chao-Ming Kang (aka Frankie Shum), are real-life martial artists with disabilities. They undergo rigorous training, forming a deep bond and mastering unique fighting styles to face numerous challenges, including confrontations with other martial artists and the master’s henchmen. The cast also includes Li Chung Keng, Chen Mu Chuan, and Ho Chiu.

An early version of the restoration debuted on Turner Classic Movies during their "Disability in the Movies" schedule in July 2023, curated by disability advocate Lawrence Carter-Long, who also provides liner notes for this release. The restoration, scanned in 2K from a rare theatrical 35mm print, involved extensive color grading by Marc Wielege, with the original print provided by author and film curator Jack Stevenson in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Special Features:

- A new documentary, "Kings of Kung Fu: Releasing the Legends," narrated by Chris Poggiali.

- Original raw scan of the film (SD) and before/after restoration examples.

- Commentary by Will Sloan and Justin Decloux of The Important Cinema Club.

- Compilation of Kung Fu trailers (SD) from Something Weird Video.

- Recut and original theatrical trailers.

- Liner notes by Lawrence Carter-Long.

- Mandarin-language track option.

Presented with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, the discs are region-free and include English SDH and Mandarin track options. Audio is available in DTS-HD/Dolby AC3s.

"The Crippled Masters" is not only a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of its characters but also a significant piece of cinema history, now accessible to a new generation of viewers in its most pristine form.
