Netflix Sets August 2026 Premiere for Anime Feature The Ribbon Hero, Inspired by Osamu Tezuka
A new anime adaptation rooted in classic manga history is on the way as Netflix announces The Ribbon Hero, set to premiere worldwide in August 2026. The film draws inspiration from Osamu Tezuka’s landmark work Princess Knight, one of the foundational titles in manga and anime storytelling.
The project is directed by Yuki Igarashi, making his feature-length directorial debut. Igarashi previously gained attention for his solo animation work on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1’s ending sequence and for directing Star Wars: Visions – Lop & Ochō, establishing a reputation for blending dynamic action with detailed emotional storytelling.
The Ribbon Hero assembles a creative team with experience across major anime and game franchises. Kei Mochizuki handles original character designs, while Mai Yoneyama contributes to character concepts, following her work on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Kazunari Arakaki serves as animation character designer, with Cedric Herold overseeing the film’s visual environments.
Animation production is led by Studio OUTLINE, a studio founded by Igarashi and known for its stylized character work and visual presentation.
The story centers on a lone hero navigating a predetermined fate, blending action-driven sequences with a character-focused narrative. The film aims to reinterpret the legacy of Princess Knight while maintaining its themes of identity, resistance, and transformation.
With its release, The Ribbon Hero joins a growing slate of anime features on Netflix that draw from established source material while introducing new creative direction. The film’s combination of legacy inspiration and modern animation talent positions it as a notable entry in the 2026 anime lineup.

Hey, our family journey was made easier by the John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) baggage claim experience. Our toddlers were both excited and exhausted after hours of travel, and we hoped the process would go smoothly. Fortunately, the Baggage Claim at John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) area was effective and manageable. The staff's presence made us feel supported if we needed help, and the luggage arrived on schedule. It made it a little easier for us to switch from travel to holiday mode.
