Turn It Up to 11—Again! ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ Returns to Theaters with 4K Restoration + Sequel Drops from Bleecker Street

Get ready to crank the amps back up as the legendary faux-doc that started it all is rolling into theaters this summer louder and sharper than ever. THIS IS SPINAL TAP, the cult classic conceived by the comedic masterminds Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, returns for a limited theatrical run July 5–7 in a brand-new 4K restoration—marking its Golden 41st Anniversary with a definitive remix and remastering fans have waited decades for.

Originally released in 1984, the film follows England’s loudest, most questionably dressed rock band on a U.S. tour that spirals into chaos, ego, and stone-cold stupidity. A foundational blueprint for every faux-doc that came after, This Is Spinal Tap is still the benchmark for satire—and now, it’s back where it belongs: on the big screen and louder than your common sense.

But that’s not all. The amps aren’t just being polished—they’re being plugged in for a second set.

Bleecker Street has confirmed the long-awaited sequel is officially on the way. Titled This Is Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues, the film brings the original creative team back for another ride into absurdity, washed-up rockstar nonsense, and probably another Stonehenge mishap. Details remain under wraps, but expect returning cast, new faces, and a whole new generation of fans who will absolutely not understand how a band can keep getting gigs with zero coordination.

Whether you’re a die-hard Taphead or a first-time viewer wondering why there’s a cucumber in the drummer’s pants, this summer is your chance to relive the genius—and idiocy—of a band that always gives just a little too much.

THIS IS SPINAL TAP returns July 5–7 for a limited run in select theaters. Stay tuned for more on The End Continues as we get closer to the sequel’s release.
