Tyrese Gibson Returns in Jazz-Soaked Action-Comedy Hollywood Grit
At HMU, we’ve been playing a running game for years: “What is Tyrese Gibson in now?” The R&B crooner turned genre film staple always seems to pop up in the most unexpected roles—somewhere between family barbecues in Fast & Furious and late-night cable thrillers. Today’s answer? Hollywood Grit.
Directed by Ryan Curtis, Hollywood Grit is a shoot-em-up action thriller with a splash of noir and a dose of dad-issues drama. Max Martini (13 Hours, Pacific Rim) leads the charge as a down-and-out detective searching for his estranged daughter, who’s gone missing after singing at an elite Hollywood jazz club. Tyrese plays a no-nonsense cop helping piece together the case, and judging by the trailer—it’s less procedural and more chaotic caper.
Expect bullets, beatdowns, and bizarre cameos as Martini’s character spirals deeper into a conspiracy thicker than the club’s cigarette smoke. From seedy back rooms to sun-drenched LA rooftops, Hollywood Grit looks like a gritty, gun-blazing throwback laced with dark humor.
Produced by Scott Adler, the film also stars Linda Purl, Patrick Duffy, Nikki Howard, Linc Hand, David B. Meadows, Caylee Cowan, Benito Martinez, and Ysabela Espinosa. It lands in limited theaters August 22.
Official Synopsis:
When his estranged daughter and aspiring singer vanishes from the glamorous yet perilous world of a Hollywood jazz club, a disgraced detective is forced to confront his past. As he unravels a trail of corruption and deceit, he finds himself in a deadly race against time, with only a few allies and even fewer clues.
