By now, many of you have tuned into Peacock this weekend to check out the show we’ve been hyping since Fantastic Fest: Teacup, the new series from Ian McCulloch and James Wan. Based on Robert McCammon’s bestselling novel Stinger, the show follows a group on a rural farm in Georgia who must band together to survive a mysterious threat. Drawing comparisons to The Thing, From, and Under the Dome, Teacup delivers bold, daring storytelling with some unexpected twists. Our biggest takeaway? It finds moments of beauty amidst the horror.

NBC/Peacock nailed the casting for Teacup. Yvonne Strahovski, Rob Morgan, and especially Caleb Dolden as Arlo, shine in their roles, pushing their characters to the limits of what they endure this season. Scott Speedman, Kathy Baker, and the always-engaging Boris McGiver add depth to the plot, with each performance heightening the tension and building toward the show’s ultimate evil.

The setting of Teacup is both confined and expansive, and one of the most thrilling aspects of the show is the mysterious boundary surrounding the farm. The constant question of what lies beyond keeps viewers hooked, and the show maintains its intrigue throughout, a quality many shows struggle with.

While the supernatural is a key element, Teacup also highlights human flaws and errors, grounding the characters in relatable struggles. Much like the show From, humanizing these characters during moments of peril is a smart narrative choice. The suspense keeps you guessing, which is exactly why we love shows like this.

With only the first two episodes released, Teacup is already sparking water-cooler conversations, even in a season packed with indie films making waves. Peacock has done an outstanding job promoting this series, and it’s shaping up to be a success. How long we’ll get to explore the world of Teacup remains to be seen, but we’re all in for the ride.
