Utopia dives into Japanese monster horror with Hot Spring Shark Attack, premiering at Chattanooga Film Festival this summer.

Utopia, the award-winning distribution company known for boundary-pushing arthouse films, is taking an unexpected plunge into Japanese monster horror with its latest acquisition, Hot Spring Shark Attack (aka Onsen Shâku). This marks the studio’s first foray into the world of kaiju-infused aquatic terror, adding a thrilling new dimension to its diverse lineup.

Directed by Morihito Inoue, a two-time winner of the National Independent Kaiju Film Championship, Hot Spring Shark Attack follows the chaos that ensues when an ancient shark awakens to terrorize a peaceful hot spring town in Japan. As the bloodthirsty predator wreaks havoc, the town’s residents must band together to fight for their survival in a battle as intense as the steaming waters of their beloved springs.

The film made waves at the 2024 Tokyo International Shark Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, and is now set for its U.S. premiere at the Chattanooga Film Festival this June. To celebrate the occasion, Utopia and CFF are teaming up for an over-the-top beach-themed opening night party, complete with surf rock music from BIG KAHUNA, tropical drinks from Cathead Distillery, and a wild karaoke clambake. Festival organizers are so confident in the film’s crowd-pleasing appeal that they’ve advised attendees to leave their socks at home, saying it will “knock them right off.”

With early fan reactions already generating buzz, including Letterboxd users hailing it as “a masterpiece from start to finish” and declaring that “real cinema is back,” Utopia’s Head of Marketing and Distribution, Kyle Greenberg, humorously remarked, “Wait, we bought what!?”

Hot Spring Shark Attack will hit North American shores this summer with a wider rollout planned. Stay tuned for more updates as Utopia brings this “unhinged” aquatic horror spectacle to audiences looking for the next great cult classic.

Maintaining a healthy balance makes gaming more enjoyable in the long run. I usually find it helpful to decide how much free time I can 9kgame spend playing before starting a session. Taking breaks, drinking water, and keeping up with everyday responsibilities are simple habits worth maintaining. Gaming should be a source of entertainment rather than an obligation. With reasonable limits, players can enjoy their favourite activities while making enough room for work, study, family, and rest.
