Verizon’s ‘Look Behind You’ Turns a Butt Dial Into a Slick, Scream-Like Horror Short

Verizon just dropped a horror short built around a butt dial, and somehow it’s giving full-on Scream energy while also looking like it could pivot into a jeans commercial at any second. That contrast is really the thing here. It’s clean, it’s polished, it’s controlled—but underneath that, it’s playing with a very familiar kind of tension that horror fans are going to recognize immediately.

The nearly five-minute short Look Behind You, directed by Nia DaCosta, follows Connor Storrie pulling up to a secluded cabin in the woods—already a situation that feels like a bad decision before anything even happens. What starts off as routine quickly shifts. He’s cooking, reading, moving through the space, and then things start turning on by themselves. The stereo. The lights. The alarm system. Nothing explodes, nothing goes over the top—it just keeps building.

And that’s where the Scream comparison hits. It’s not about what you’re seeing, it’s about what you think is about to happen next. The butt dial concept threads through all of it, connecting these moments in a way that feels like someone is always just a step behind what’s unfolding.

Storrie plays it exactly how it needs to be played—uneasy, aware, not overreacting but definitely not comfortable—and DaCosta keeps everything tight, letting the atmosphere do the work instead of forcing it.

It’s a weird mix on paper. A telecom commercial. A horror setup. A fashion-adjacent look. But put together, it actually lands in a way that feels way more intentional than it should.
