Cannes-Bound Victorian Psycho Reveals First Look Ahead of September 25 Release

A new gothic thriller is entering the fall slate as Bleecker Street confirms Victorian Psycho will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before opening in theaters nationwide on September 25.

Directed by Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) and written by Virginia Feito, the film stars Maika Monroe, Thomasin McKenzie, Ruth Wilson, and Jason Isaacs.

The story follows an eccentric governess who arrives at a remote Gothic manor, where her presence quickly raises suspicion. As strange events begin to unfold, the line between perception and reality starts to blur, with mounting tension around who she is—and what she may be hiding.

The first poster and stills emphasize the film’s tone: restrained, atmospheric, and rooted in period detail. The setting plays a central role, with the manor acting as both environment and pressure point for the unfolding narrative.

Victorian Psycho also carries added attention as a project from the producers behind Longlegs, placing it within a recent wave of character-driven horror that prioritizes mood and psychological tension over traditional structure.

With its Cannes debut, the film enters a space often reserved for elevated genre titles that blend period storytelling with darker thematic elements. Its theatrical release later this year positions it within the fall corridor, typically associated with prestige-driven genre releases.

Victorian Psycho opens in theaters September 25.
