Vidiots Foundation Unveils Dynamic May 2025 Programming, Welcomes Criterion Mobile Closet to L.A.
The Vidiots Foundation continues to prove why it’s one of L.A.’s most beloved cinematic sanctuaries with a packed slate of screenings and events this May. Fresh off hosting the Criterion Mobile Closet’s first-ever visit to Los Angeles, Vidiots keeps the momentum going with an eclectic and community-centered lineup at the historic Eagle Theatre.
Founded in 1985 as a fiercely independent video store in Santa Monica, Vidiots has grown into a full-fledged nonprofit committed to preserving physical media, spotlighting underrepresented voices, and making film culture more accessible for all. Since reopening its doors in June 2023, the newly restored Eagle Theatre in Northeast L.A. has become a gathering place for cinephiles, creators, and curious newcomers alike.
Highlights from May 2025 at Vidiots:
May 7 – Compensation (New Restoration)
With filmmaker Zeinabu irene Davis in person. A landmark of the L.A. Rebellion movement, Compensation was recently honored by the Library of Congress for its cultural impact.
May 15 – Mommie Dearest & Mrs. Doubtfire
A Mother’s Day double feature with the drama and the drag.
May 21 – Malcolm X
Spike Lee’s epic screened in honor of Malcolm X’s 100th birthday.
May 27 – Manila in the Claws of Light
Presented in partnership with A Bunch of Savages, this Filipino classic gets the big screen treatment.
May 31 – Michael Clayton
Featuring a special appearance by director Tony Gilroy for a post-screening conversation.
Whether you’re dropping in for a cult favorite, discovering new international gems, or catching a conversation with a living legend, Vidiots is open seven days a week with screenings for all ages and interests.
With nearly 11,000 square feet of space—including a 271-seat main theater (35mm & DCP), the MUBI Microcinema, and a full-scale video store with DVD/Blu-ray rentals—Vidiots is built for the full cinematic experience. Food, concessions, beer, and wine round out the offerings, and every visit helps support this vital non-profit’s mission.
