Warner Bros. Sets Expanded 2027–2028 Slate at CinemaCon, Including Final Destination 7 and Evil Dead Wrath
At CinemaCon, Warner Bros. outlined a broadened theatrical strategy with a slate of new titles extending through 2028, emphasizing franchise continuation, genre filmmaking, and increased annual output.
Among the newly dated projects are several high-profile genre entries:
The Revenge of La Llorona – April 9, 2027
Evil Dead Wrath – April 7, 2028
Final Destination 7 – May 12, 2028
Gladys (a spinoff tied to Weapons) – September 8, 2028
The slate also includes a prequel to the Ocean’s franchise, led by Margot Robbie, set for June 25, 2027, along with The Flood, a new thriller from Zach Cregger, arriving August 11, 2028. An untitled historical project from Baz Luhrmann centered on Joan of Arc is scheduled for November 22, 2028.
The announcements arrive as Warner Bros. continues to scale its theatrical output. Studio leadership noted that the number of major studio releases has declined by approximately 23% compared to pre-pandemic levels. In response, the company has increased its yearly release volume, moving from six films in 2022 to 11 in 2025, with plans for 14 releases in 2026 and 18 in 2027.
The upcoming slate reflects a mix of established intellectual property and new projects across multiple genres. Franchise extensions such as Final Destination 7 and Evil Dead Wrath continue long-running horror properties, while Gladys signals further expansion of newer titles like Weapons.
The broader industry context also remains in flux. Warner Bros. is currently involved in a potential sale to Paramount Skydance. David Ellison has indicated that, if finalized, the combined entity would aim to release approximately 30 films annually, which could influence future scheduling and production timelines.
Warner Bros. co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy emphasized the necessity of increased output and willingness to take risks as part of the studio’s long-term strategy.
