Alamo Drafthouse and Toho International Celebrate Godzilla Day with Exclusive Merch, Screenings, and Monster Madness

Alamo Drafthouse celebrates Godzilla Day 2025 with screenings and merch.
Alamo Drafthouse and Toho International celebrate Godzilla’s 71st birthday with The Return of Godzilla re-release, kaiju marathon, and exclusive collectibles.

ゴジラ、お誕生日おめでとう! The King of the Monsters turns 71 this year, and Alamo Drafthouse is pulling out all the stops to celebrate in true kaiju fashion. Teaming up once again with Toho International, the theater chain is rolling out Godzilla Day 2025—a nationwide birthday bash featuring a rare re-release of The Return of Godzilla, a massive kaiju marathon, and a line of exclusive collectibles including the first-ever Godzilla-shaped popcorn bucket.

On Monday, November 3rd, Alamo Drafthouse locations across the country will mark the occasion with screenings of The Return of Godzilla—the 1984 classic that kicked off the beloved Heisei era. The film, originally re-edited and released in the U.S. as Godzilla 1985, remains one of the franchise’s most enduring and action-packed chapters.

Fans in the Bay Area can go even bigger. The new kaiju-themed Alamo Drafthouse in Santa Clara, CA, will host a mystery Godzilla marathon on Sunday, November 2nd, complete with themed snacks, a towering two-story Godzilla display, and enough atomic nostalgia to melt the Golden Gate Bridge.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Toho International on this exclusive Godzilla Day celebration and first-of-its-kind merchandise collection,” said Chaya Rosenthal, Chief Marketing Officer at Alamo Drafthouse. “Fans are going to lose their minds over these collectibles—from the Mothra Mug to the Godzilla-shaped popcorn bucket. As a lifelong Godzilla fan myself, I already have a spot saved in my display case.”

The limited-edition Godzilla Day 2025 T-shirt, designed by Chris Bilheimer, will also be available exclusively to fans who purchase tickets before October 17th.

Of course, no Godzilla celebration would be complete without merch worthy of the kaiju’s colossal legacy. The Alamo Drafthouse x Godzilla Collection drops October 27th on AlamoMart.com, featuring the debut of the Showa Godzilla Popcorn Bucket—a numbered, collector’s-edition bucket limited to 6,000 units. Designed by Alamo’s own Scott Sugiuchi, the bucket arrives in a custom display box, marking the start of a new collectible series that will continue into 2026.

Also joining the collection:

  • The Mothra Winged Mug (limited to 5,000 units)

  • The Kaiju Enamel Pin Set

  • The King of the Monsters Hat

  • The Godzilla in Color Hoodie by Tom Whalen

“Any day is a day worth celebrating the G Man,” said Jake Isgar, Head of Alternative Content & Specialty Programming. “But this year, we’re pulling out all the stops for a birthday celebration befitting our atomic pal.”

From kaiju marathons to collectible chaos, Godzilla Day 2025 proves that the monster’s reign is far from over—and Alamo Drafthouse is making sure every stomp, roar, and popcorn bite counts.
