Mokster Films Launches Sales on Indonesian Exorcism Sequel Dominion of Darkness 2 Ahead of EFM
One of Indonesia’s most successful recent horror hits is officially expanding its reach.
Singapore-based Mokster Films has boarded international sales on Dominion of Darkness 2, the sequel to the 2024 breakout exorcism thriller, and will begin shopping the film to buyers at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin.
The follow-up arrives with serious momentum behind it. The original Dominion of Darkness became a phenomenon upon release, selling to 53 territories and drawing over 1.47 million admissions in Indonesia within just 20 days, cementing its place among the country’s top-performing horror films of the year.
Produced by Paragon Pictures and Ideosource Entertainment, the franchise stood out immediately for its subject matter. While Indonesian horror often draws from Islamic folklore and traditions, Dominion of Darkness centered on Christian exorcism in a Muslim-majority country—an unconventional angle that helped the film travel well internationally.
The sequel is directed by Rizal Mantovani, best known for The Chanting trilogy, and promises to push the concept further with what producers describe as higher stakes, deeper theological lore, and elevated supernatural terror designed to resonate with global audiences. Franchise creator Robert Ronny returns as both writer and producer.
Dominion of Darkness 2 reunites Lukman Sardi and Jerome Kurnia, reprising their roles as Catholic exorcists Father Rendra and Father Thomas. This time, the priests are drawn to a remote town in East Java to investigate a brutal possession tied to a generations-old blood pact. Their investigation awakens a Rephaim, an ancient demon rooted in Old Testament scripture, escalating the threat far beyond a single case.
As Church authorities withdraw their support, the exorcists are forced to confront the demonic force alone—testing their faith to its breaking point as the entity threatens consequences on a global scale.
The film is currently slated for a theatrical release in October 2026, positioning it as a major international horror title on the horizon.
Mokster Films, led by former WME Independent executive Nelson Mok, is maintaining a strong presence at EFM this year. In addition to Dominion of Darkness 2, the company is handling sales for Taiwanese supernatural horror The Damp, directed by Fu Tien-yu, as well as selling Phantom and Red Thread, two genre projects Mok is also producing.
The story was first reported by Deadline, but for horror fans tracking the continued global rise of Indonesian genre cinema, Dominion of Darkness 2 looks poised to be one of the most closely watched titles heading into EFM—and beyond.
