Apocalyptic Horror Bury Your Dead Now Available on Digital and VOD
Dark Star has officially released Bury Your Dead, the new apocalyptic horror thriller from director Marco Dutra, now available on Digital and Video on Demand platforms.
Adapted from Ana Paula Maia's acclaimed novel, the Brazilian feature blends elements of psychological horror, road movie storytelling, and apocalyptic drama while exploring themes of faith, devotion, and survival in a collapsing world.
The film stars Selton Mello and Marjorie Estiano, with Dutra returning behind the camera after co-directing 2017's Good Manners (As Boas Maneiras).
Bury Your Dead follows Edgar Wilson, a roadkill collector who dreams of escaping his small-town life with Nete, the woman he loves. When Nete decides to join her family inside an apocalyptic cult, Edgar is forced to make a difficult decision.
As civilization begins to deteriorate around him, Edgar teams up with Tomás, a disgraced and excommunicated priest, embarking on a dangerous journey through a landscape consumed by uncertainty, chaos, and despair.
Along the way, Edgar must confront his past while navigating a world that appears to be approaching its final chapter.
Visually, the film leans into Brazil's desolate backroads and isolated environments, creating an atmosphere that balances grounded realism with unsettling supernatural undertones.
The project also arrives with strong festival credentials. Bury Your Dead made its world premiere at the 2024 Sitges Film Festival before being selected for competition sections at both the BFI London Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival.
