Prudence will lead a new wave of French adult animation with underwater horror and parasitic terror.

French Animation Studio OuiDo! Launches Adult Animation Division With Horror Feature Prudence

Adult animation continues to gain momentum worldwide, and France is officially diving deeper into the genre space.

At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Paris-based animation company OuiDo! Productions announced the launch of Everybody On Board, a new joint venture dedicated to developing animated films and series specifically for adult audiences.

The new company is being formed alongside producers Didier Creste and Joé Baudot, two creators who have already helped establish themselves as major players in France's growing adult animation movement through projects like Mars Express and the cult animated series Lastman.

The partnership also unveiled its first project, Prudence, which is being billed as the first fully French-produced animated horror feature film.

Set in the near future, Prudence follows commercial divers Ina and Claude as they join the crew of an underwater station located 200 meters beneath the ocean's surface.

Their mission is to help contain a catastrophic oil spill, but isolation and environmental dangers quickly become the least of their concerns.

Things spiral out of control when the station's doctor becomes infected by a highly contagious parasitic worm.

The parasite strips away all inhibitions from its hosts, unleashing their most extreme impulses while feeding on their endorphins like an emotional vampire.

The film will be directed by Jérémie Hoarau, who previously worked on Lastman, and written by Hoarau and Laurent Sarfati.

Executive production duties will be handled by JeSuisBienContent, while Tandem Films will distribute the movie in France.

For horror fans, the premise immediately stands out. Underwater horror has quietly become one of the genre's most effective settings over the last decade, and combining deep-sea isolation with body horror and adult animation could create something truly unique.

The launch also signals a larger shift happening throughout the animation industry.

For years, much of France's animation output has been associated with family-friendly programming, including OuiDo!'s work on Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+. With Everybody On Board, the company is now entering an entirely different creative lane.

"Adult animation is a rapidly growing segment, and France has all the creative talent needed to develop ambitious projects in this field," said Sandrine Nguyen, CEO of OuiDo! Productions.

"Horror remains one of the most successful genres worldwide, making Prudence the perfect project to launch our collaboration."

The film is expected to run approximately 80 minutes, with additional Everybody On Board projects already in development.

If Prudence is any indication of what's coming, adult animation fans may have an entirely new studio to keep an eye on.

And honestly, an underwater animated horror movie about parasitic worms that feed on human emotions sounds exactly weird enough to work.
