Alice Eve Battles Sharks and Survival in IFC Thriller CHUM

Alice Eve in shark thriller CHUM set in Malta
Alice Eve leads a deadly destination wedding nightmare in shark survival thriller CHUM.

IFC Sets June Release for Shark Survival Thriller ‘CHUM’ Starring Alice Eve

CHUM will arrive in theaters and on VOD platforms June 5 through Independent Film Company.

Directed by Jonathan Zuck, the thriller stars Alice Eve alongside Eric Michael Cole, Elle Haymond, Sarah Siadat, Johnny Gaffney, Lisa Yaro, and Jim Klock.

Set against the coastal backdrop of Malta, the film follows a destination wedding that spirals into chaos after a violent shark attack collides with the arrival of a dangerous fisherman harboring his own hidden agenda. According to the official synopsis, the wedding party becomes trapped between open water and a human predator while personal secrets and fractured relationships begin surfacing under pressure.

The screenplay was written by Jonathan Zuck and Joe Leone from a story developed by James Kondelik, Ryan R. Johnson, and Dick Grunert.

Alice Eve also serves as one of the film’s producers alongside Eamon O’Rourke, Lucas Jarach, and Luke Daniels.

The newly released trailer positions CHUM firmly within survival thriller territory, combining shark attack horror with hostage-style psychological tension. Early reactions online have already drawn comparisons to Dangerous Animals, the recent shark-centered thriller starring Jai Courtney, particularly due to both films blending aquatic horror with unstable human antagonists.

Some online discussion surrounding the trailer has also focused on the film’s shark visual effects, with viewers debating the use of digital creature work throughout the attack sequences.

Despite those conversations, shark survival thrillers continue remaining a consistent subgenre within horror and thriller cinema, especially as streaming and day-and-date releases create wider audiences for contained survival concepts and creature-driven suspense.

CHUM opens in theaters and on digital platforms June 5.

Honestly a useful little tool. The star wars name generator helped me come up with a username that finally wasn’t already taken everywhere. Great for gaming accounts and roleplay forums.

Alice Eve fits this kind of movie vibe perfectly, being both sophisticated and vulnerable when thrown into papa's freezeria a survival situation. The trailer really does give you the feeling of "not knowing whether to be more afraid of sharks or humans."
