The ocean doesn’t care about your trauma. That’s the vibe coming off ROW, the new survival-thriller from director Matt Losasso, which is set to make its world premiere at the 33rd Raindance Film Festival on June 21st. Kaleidoscope Entertainment is rolling this one out heavy, and for good reason—it’s got the makings of a sleeper hit. Bella Dayne, best known for Humans, takes the lead as a woman who washes up on the Scottish coast in a blood-slicked rowing boat, suffering from severe memory loss. What’s worse? She’s the only one who made it. The rest of her trans-Atlantic crew has vanished without a trace, and now, with questions mounting, she’s forced to piece together what happened out there—and what she might have done.
ROW is already getting serious festival attention. It’s nominated for Best UK Feature, Best Director (Matthew Losasso), Best Cinematography, and Best Performance in a UK Feature for Dayne, who from early buzz might be delivering a career-best performance. Also starring Sophie Skelton (Outlander), Nick Skaugen, Akshey Khanna, David O’Hara, and Mark Strepan, the film blends icy visuals with that creeping dread only isolation can provide. It’s The Shallows meets The Lodge, but with a twist that feels more cerebral than jumpy—an emotional, edge-of-your-seat unraveling of guilt, survival, and identity.
This isn’t just a story about making it back to land. It’s about what happens when the land turns against you too. ROW seems poised to tap into that specific kind of horror that lingers—something psychological, atmospheric, and sharp around the edges. Think memory loss as both a plot device and a form of suspense. Think trauma you can’t escape just because you don’t remember it. As more details emerge, this film looks like one of the stronger genre entries to come out of the UK this year. Don’t be surprised if it shows up on some end-of-year lists.
ROW premieres June 21st at Raindance. We’ll be watching closely—because whatever happened out there on that boat? It’s coming back with her.
