‘BLUE EYE SAMURAI’ Season 2 Sets January 2027 Premiere as Mizu’s Bloody Revenge Continues in London

Netflix has officially announced the return of its Emmy Award-winning animated series BLUE EYE SAMURAI, confirming that Season 2 will premiere on January 19, 2027, with six new episodes continuing Mizu's violent journey of revenge.

Created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, the acclaimed adult animated series will move beyond feudal Japan as its central character travels to London in pursuit of the remaining men who may hold the answers to her mysterious parentage.

When audiences last saw Mizu, voiced by Maya Erskine, the mixed-race swordmaster had boarded a ship bound for England. Having spent much of the first season hunting the men she believes are responsible for her existence, Mizu now finds herself heading into unfamiliar territory, where her search for vengeance promises to become even more complicated.

Season 2 picks up directly from that departure, bringing Mizu's bloody quest to London, where she will encounter new allies, familiar enemies, and the personal demons that have followed her throughout her journey.

The change in setting represents a significant expansion of the series' world. While the first season explored the violence, political tensions, and rigid social hierarchies of Edo-period Japan, the second season will introduce Mizu to a foreign society that presents its own challenges and dangers.

However, the story won't remain entirely focused on London.

Back in Japan, Akemi and Taigen will navigate the increasingly dangerous political environment of Edo Castle under a new Shogun. Meanwhile, Ringo, whose relationship with Mizu became an important emotional component of the first season, will begin searching for a new purpose.

These parallel storylines suggest that the consequences of Season 1 will continue to shape the characters who remain in Japan, even as Mizu's pursuit of revenge takes her farther from home.

Netflix has also announced additional voice talent for the upcoming season, including Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster, and Sherry Cola, joining returning lead Maya Erskine. Details regarding the new characters have not yet been disclosed.

Noizumi and Green return as creators, executive producers, and writers, with animation once again handled by Blue Spirit.

Since its debut, BLUE EYE SAMURAI has distinguished itself through its combination of elaborate swordplay, mature storytelling, and striking animation. The series blends historical fiction with brutal action and character-driven drama, using Mizu's personal journey to explore identity, prejudice, vengeance, and the consequences of violence.

Its first season earned widespread critical recognition, including an Emmy Award, while establishing Mizu as one of the more compelling protagonists in contemporary adult animation.

For audiences drawn to the show's graphic combat and darker storytelling, the move to London opens the door to a different kind of confrontation. Mizu's exceptional abilities with a sword may have carried her through Japan, but the cultural and political landscape awaiting her in England could prove equally dangerous.

The six-episode second season will also be shorter than the eight-episode debut, potentially resulting in a more concentrated continuation of Mizu's journey.

With the premiere date now confirmed, audiences won't have much longer to wait to see how the next chapter unfolds.

BLUE EYE SAMURAI Season 2 premieres January 19, 2027, exclusively on Netflix.
