Carrie First-Look Images Reveal Summer Howell as Stephen King’s Telekinetic Teen in Mike Flanagan’s Prime Video Series
More than five decades after Stephen King’s debut novel first shocked readers, Carrie is preparing to return in a brand-new form.
Prime Video has unveiled the first official images from Mike Flanagan’s highly anticipated television adaptation of Carrie, offering fans their first look at Summer Howell as the iconic telekinetic teenager ahead of the series’ fall premiere.
The eight-episode series marks the first time King’s 1974 novel has been adapted as a television series, bringing a modernized take on one of horror’s most influential stories to a new generation.
Summer Howell Takes Center Stage as Carrie White
The newly released images showcase Howell in the title role after reportedly beating out more than 1,000 young actresses during the casting process.
Known for her work in genre projects including Cult of Chucky, Howell steps into the role made famous by Sissy Spacek in Brian De Palma’s 1976 adaptation.

According to the official synopsis, this version of Carrie follows a socially isolated teenager who has spent much of her life sheltered inside her home by her fiercely protective and deeply controlling mother, Margaret White.
Following the sudden death of her father, Carrie is forced into the often brutal environment of public high school, where she becomes the target of a viral bullying scandal while navigating the pressures of social media, adolescence, and the emergence of powerful telekinetic abilities.
Mike Flanagan Reimagines a Horror Classic
Flanagan serves as writer, showrunner, executive producer, and director for four episodes of the series.
The filmmaker has become one of the most respected voices in modern horror thanks to projects such as The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Life of Chuck.
His involvement has made Carrie one of the most closely watched horror projects currently in development.
Stephen King is also attached as an executive producer alongside Flanagan on the Amazon MGM Studios production.
A Strong Ensemble Cast Joins the Blood-Soaked Drama
Joining Howell is a cast that includes:
Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White
Siena Agudong as Sue Snell
Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen
Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross
Josie Totah as Tina
Arthur Conti as Billy
Thalia Dudek as Emaline
Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin
Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle
The cast combines rising talent with recognizable genre veterans, adding another layer of anticipation to the project.
Bringing Carrie Into the Social Media Era
One of the most intriguing elements of Flanagan’s adaptation appears to be its modern setting.
While King’s original novel and the classic film adaptation focused on school bullying and social isolation, this version incorporates viral scandals, online harassment, and the pressures of social media culture.
The update could provide a fresh lens through which to explore the story’s enduring themes of cruelty, alienation, trauma, and revenge.
A New Chapter for a Horror Icon
Carrie remains one of the most influential horror novels ever written and helped launch Stephen King’s legendary career. Since its publication, the story has inspired multiple adaptations, including the 1976 classic directed by Brian De Palma, a 2002 television adaptation, the 2013 remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz, and the 1999 sequel The Rage: Carrie 2.
Now, Flanagan and Prime Video are preparing to introduce Carrie White to a new generation.
Based on the first images, the blood-soaked tragedy that made King’s debut novel a horror landmark appears ready to return this fall.
Carrie premieres this fall exclusively on Prime Video.
