Charlotte Kirk and Neil Marshall Reteam for Psychological Thriller The Spiral Down
Charlotte Kirk and Neil Marshall are teaming up once again, this time for the upcoming psychological thriller The Spiral Down.
The project marks the fifth collaboration between Kirk and Marshall following The Reckoning, The Lair, Duchess and the recently completed Compulsion. Marshall, best known to horror audiences for directing The Descent, will serve as a writer and producer on the new film.
The Spiral Down will be directed by Aaron Mirtes, whose credits include Whiskey Run. Production is scheduled to begin in Kentucky next month.
Kirk will star as Mary Doyle, a woman kidnapped by a serial killer obsessed with perfection. As detectives begin closing in on her captor, however, the investigation takes an unexpected turn when they discover Mary isn’t the helpless victim they initially believed her to be.
Mary is actually a dangerous escapee from a psychiatric institution with a violent history of her own. After killing her kidnapper and disappearing without a trace, the case changes completely, leaving authorities searching for someone who may pose an even greater threat than the killer they were originally pursuing.
Additional casting for the privately financed production is currently underway.
Marshall, Kirk and Karlos Ways will produce the film, with Kirk also producing through Primal Empire Studios.
The project continues Kirk’s growing slate of horror and thriller titles. She will next appear in The Possession of Gladstone Manor alongside Caylee Cowan, Jesse Metcalfe and Lin Shaye, as well as horror comedy Catnip with Jake Busey and horror thriller The Last Bride.
Kirk also has the romantic comedy Christmas and Chaos with Jason Isaacs and suspense thriller Night Driver starring Josh Lucas among her upcoming projects.
For horror fans, the reunion between Kirk and Marshall is notable given how frequently the pair have worked together over the past several years. This time, Marshall remains behind the screenplay and production while Mirtes takes over the director’s chair for a story built around reversing the familiar serial killer and captive dynamic.
With production expected to begin shortly, additional casting and release details for The Spiral Down should follow as the project moves forward.
