It wouldn’t be spooky season without a new film from the Bloomquist brothers, and this year’s offering is already shaping up to be one of their most intriguing. Cineverse and its horror division Bloody Disgusting have acquired North American VOD and streaming rights to Self-Help, the latest from Erik and Carson Bloomquist and their Mainframe Pictures banner.
We first caught wind of Self-Help during its buzzworthy debut at Chattanooga Film Festival, and it’s exciting to see the film getting a theatrical push just in time for Halloween. The film will hit theaters nationwide on October 31, following special “Mischief Night Sneak Previews” on October 30, before heading to digital release through Cineverse in early 2026.
The story follows a college student who infiltrates a dangerous self-actualization community after her mother becomes entangled with its charismatic “anti-cult” leader. It’s an eerie descent into obsession, manipulation, and power dynamics that feels all too real — exactly the kind of dark psychological playground the Bloomquists thrive in.
Self-Help stars Jake Weber (Dawn of the Dead), Landry Bender (Looking for Alaska), Madison Lintz (Bosch), and Amy Hargreaves (Homeland), alongside a supporting cast that includes Carol Cadby, Blaque Fowler, Adam Weppler, and Erik Bloomquist himself.
The film was written by the Bloomquist brothers and produced under Mainframe Pictures, with Amy Hargreaves, Landry Bender, Tyler LaValley, Jerry Daigle, William Kay, and Chris Woodward serving as co-producers.
In a joint statement, the Bloomquists said, “The tireless team of genre fanatics at Cineverse have built a thrilling ecosystem, and we’re eager to contribute to their uncompromising filmography.”
Cineverse added, “Self-Help represents everything we love about horror: fearless storytelling, visceral gore, and disturbing imagery that stays with you long after the credits roll.”
As longtime fans of the Bloomquists here at HMU, we couldn’t be more thrilled to see Self-Help landing the wide platform it deserves. The duo continues to carve out a unique space in modern genre filmmaking — blending cerebral horror with stylish execution — and this latest effort looks to keep that momentum going strong.
Self-Help opens in theaters Halloween 2025, followed by a Cineverse digital release in early 2026.
