Dani Swan Action Thriller Iris Set to Film in Spain and Japan With Toei Assisting Production
According to Deadline, U.S. indie banner Rising Swan Entertainment is moving forward with Iris, a female-led action thriller created by and starring Dani Swan (The Matrix Resurrections), with production scheduled to take place across Spain and Japan later this year.
The project will mark the feature directorial debut of Lisa C. Satriano, whose extensive credits as an assistant director include major productions such as Black Panther, Venom, Atomic Blonde, Thor: Ragnarok, and The Butler.
Rising Swan Entertainment is producing the film alongside Spain's Blue Iris Entertainment.
Approximately 40 percent of Iris will be filmed in Japan, with legendary Japanese studio Toei Company providing significant support for the production. Toei's involvement includes studio facilities, casting assistance, production personnel, and creative collaboration on production design and stunt coordination. The company will also assist the filmmakers in applying for Japan's production incentive program.
Co-written by Dani Swan and Bryan Hwang, Iris blends action noir, psychological mystery, and samurai mythology into a story that moves between modern-day Paris and feudal Japan. Producers describe the project as an elevated international genre thriller designed for global audiences.
The production has assembled an experienced creative team behind the camera. Cinematography will be handled by Damien Beebe (Edge of Tomorrow), while Anthony Nanakornpanom (The Odyssey) joins as stunt coordinator. Visual effects supervision will be provided by Alonso Valera (Ex Machina).
Casting is currently underway, with production expected to begin in fall 2026.
For Swan, Iris represents a significant expansion of her creative role, serving as both star and co-creator of the project. Meanwhile, Satriano steps into the director's chair for her first feature after years working behind the scenes on some of Hollywood's biggest productions.
With its blend of international locations, action-driven storytelling, psychological mystery, and samurai-inspired mythology, Iris is shaping up to be an ambitious genre production that bridges Eastern and Western influences.
As filming preparations continue across Spain and Japan, more casting and production announcements are expected in the coming months.
