Dave Franco Joins Sophie Wilde in Alien Invasion Thriller ‘Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten’
The Cannes market is already heating up, and one of the more intriguing genre projects gaining traction is Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten—an alien invasion thriller that just added a notable name to its lineup.
Dave Franco is officially set to star alongside Sophie Wilde in the upcoming film, marking a pairing that blends rising horror credibility with mainstream recognition. Wilde, coming off her breakout in Talk to Me, continues to position herself as one of the most compelling young leads in genre, while Franco brings a grounded, accessible presence that could broaden the film’s reach.
The project is directed by Egor Abramenko, whose previous work includes the sci-fi thriller Sputnik and the upcoming A24-backed Altar. The script comes from Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins—the duo behind the 2022 Hellraiser reboot and The Night House—giving the film a strong pedigree in atmospheric horror storytelling.
The story itself leans into a classic setup with a disruptive twist: a young engaged couple, Rob and Sabile, travel to a remote mountain resort for their wedding, only to have the celebration derailed by an alien invasion. What begins as an intimate, life-defining moment quickly transforms into a fight for survival—blending relationship drama with cosmic horror.
The screenplay is based on a short story by Nick Antosca, whose track record in psychological and genre storytelling (Channel Zero, The Act) suggests a narrative that will likely balance emotional tension with unsettling, high-concept horror.
Behind the scenes, the film is backed by a heavyweight production team. Anonymous Content, Eat the Cat, and Divide/Conquer are all involved, with Anton fully financing the project and handling worldwide rights. The film is currently being pre-sold at Cannes, with domestic sales managed by Anton, Anonymous Content, and WME Independent.
Production is slated to begin this summer, with additional casting still underway.
For horror fans, Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten checks several key boxes: a contained setting, a high-concept threat, and a creative team with a proven ability to build tension. If executed correctly, this could land somewhere between intimate survival horror and large-scale sci-fi dread—a space the genre doesn’t always explore effectively.
With Franco and Wilde now leading the charge, this is a project firmly on the radar as Cannes continues to roll out its next wave of genre contenders.
