FAMILY DINNER is the debut feature from Austrian filmmaker Peter Hengl and centers on Simi, an overweight teenager who decides to spend the Easter holiday weekend at the remote farmhouse of her Aunt Claudia, a professional nutrition coach, in the hopes of getting help to lose weight. But soon after her arrival, Simi begins to suspect that something sinister may be going on.
Overweight and insecure, Simi (Nina Katlein) spends Easter weekend with her famous nutritionist aunt (Pia Hierzegger). The hope is that it’ll help her get on a healthier track, but as the aunt’s family’s icy dynamics and an increasingly malevolent atmosphere leave Simi feeling uneasy, weight isn’t the only thing she’s about to lose.
