Film Masters Unearths Atomic Age Horror with Monster Mayhem Collection Blu-ray Set
For fans of drive-in horror, atomic-age sci-fi, and the glorious insanity of 1950s B-movie monster cinema, Film Masters is digging deep into the vault.
The restoration-focused distributor has announced the Monster Mayhem Collection, a two-disc Blu-ray collector’s set bringing together four cult monster movies from the 1950s—many newly restored and presented together for the first time. The set arrives April 7.
The release includes Frankenstein’s Daughter (1958), Giant From the Unknown (1958), The Brain From Planet Arous (1957), and Monster From Green Hell (1957)—four films that helped define the era of drive-in creature features and Cold War-era paranoia.

Each title in the collection has been sourced from 4K scans of 35mm archival prints and is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio, offering fans a restoration-focused presentation that honors the wild creativity of mid-century genre filmmaking.
Film Masters has built a reputation around preserving genre history, and this release also marks the first title from the Wade Williams Collection, part of a new distribution agreement with the late filmmaker’s estate. The library includes a number of legendary cult titles such as Plan 9 from Outer Space, The Crawling Eye, and The Day It Came to Earth, with more restorations planned in the future.
The films themselves are exactly the kind of pulpy chaos that defined the monster boom of the late 1950s.

In Frankenstein’s Daughter, the grandson of Victor Frankenstein continues the family’s disturbing scientific experiments in modern-day Los Angeles, ultimately creating a female monster while dragging an unsuspecting young woman into the madness. Directed by Richard E. Cunha, the film blends beatnik culture, teen drama, and mad science into one of the era’s most memorable pieces of B-movie schlock.

Cunha also directed Giant From the Unknown, which follows a resurrected Spanish conquistador whose armored corpse rises from the grave during an archaeological dig and begins terrorizing a small California town. The film is beloved for its atmospheric black-and-white cinematography and monster makeup by legendary effects artist Jack Pierce, whose credits include Frankenstein and The Mummy.

Arguably the most infamous entry in the set is The Brain From Planet Arous, Nathan Juran’s wonderfully bizarre sci-fi tale about a rogue alien brain that possesses a nuclear scientist and threatens the world with destruction. Featuring glowing-eye effects created using metal-lined contact lenses, the film has become a cult favorite for its over-the-top performances and gleefully pulpy storytelling.

Rounding out the collection is Monster From Green Hell, a creature feature rooted firmly in Cold War-era fears of radiation. After a space experiment sends wasps into orbit, the insects mutate into massive man-eating monsters in the African jungle, forcing a rescue expedition into a desperate fight for survival.
Beyond the restorations themselves, the Monster Mayhem Collection includes a robust set of archival features designed for classic horror devotees.
The set features full-length archival audio commentaries from film historians Tom Weaver, Stephen R. Bissette, and Gary Crutcher, as well as four mini-documentaries produced by Ballyhoo Motion Pictures exploring the filmmakers behind these cult titles.
Also included is a collectible booklet with new liner notes by Tom Weaver, offering historical context and behind-the-scenes insights into the films and the era that produced them.
Presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio, the discs are region free and feature English SDH subtitles along with DTS-HD and Dolby AC3 audio.
For longtime monster movie fans—especially the self-proclaimed “Monster Kids” who grew up on late-night horror television and drive-in creature features—this Blu-ray set offers a lovingly restored trip back to one of the most imaginative eras in genre cinema.
Film Masters’ Monster Mayhem Collection arrives on Blu-ray April 7.
