First Look Images Revealed for John Boyega and Cara Delevingne Supernatural Horror Film ‘The Punishing’
The first images from The Punishing have been unveiled ahead of the Cannes Film Market, where the supernatural horror project will launch international sales through Ignite alongside WME and UTA.
Written and directed by Chris Sparling, the film stars John Boyega and Cara Delevingne.
According to details first reported by Deadline, the film is currently in post-production and draws heavily from Scandinavian folklore.
Set on a remote Icelandic island, the story follows a man who unexpectedly recovers from a terminal illness after arriving on the isolated land. However, his wife gradually uncovers that the island’s mysterious healing abilities come attached to increasingly horrifying consequences.
The newly released images emphasize bleak coastal landscapes, isolated environments, and cold atmospheric visuals that suggest a slow-burning supernatural thriller rooted in folklore, psychological tension, and bodily transformation.
The project is backed by Spooky Pictures, Redwire Pictures, and Tiki Tane Pictures.
Producing credits include Steven Schneider, William Shockley, Tom Brady, Luke Daniels, Andrew Corkin, and Boyega himself.
Chris Sparling is best known for writing Buried, and The Punishing appears to continue his interest in contained tension-driven narratives, this time filtered through supernatural horror and folklore-inspired mythology.
The film also arrives as Cara Delevingne continues making appearances at Cannes with her other festival title Club Kid, while John Boyega adds another genre project to his growing post-Star Wars: The Force Awakens filmography.
Ignite will begin presenting the film to international buyers during Cannes market screenings this week.
