Horror movies and shows streaming in October 2026.
October brings a massive month of horror across subscription and free streaming services, with new premieres, returning favorites and Halloween classics.

Horror Streaming Guide: What to Watch in October 2026, From Major Streamers to Free Horror

October is here, and that means horror has taken over nearly every corner of streaming.

Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, Prime Video and HBO Max are loading their libraries for Halloween. Shudder has an entire month of original premieres planned. Genre-focused services including Bloodstream and Screambox are providing alternatives to the major platforms.

But some of the strongest Halloween libraries don’t require a subscription at all.

Tubi, Pluto TV, Fawesome, Plex, Xumo Play, FilmRise and The Roku Channel give horror fans another way to build an October watchlist without adding another monthly bill.

Horror Movies Uncut is tracking all of it.

Our October Horror Streaming Guide focuses on new movies and series, major horror premieres, returning shows, franchise collections, noteworthy catalog additions and the free streaming options worth knowing about.

Availability can change throughout the month, so we’ll continue updating the guide as new titles are announced.

Netflix

Netflix has several new genre projects arriving throughout October.

Below premieres October 8. The six-part supernatural limited series stars Josh Hartnett and centers on a remote coastal community facing something mysterious beneath the water.

The Korean fantasy-horror series Dead-End Job follows on October 9, while Filipino horror mystery Balaraw: Blood Island arrives October 15. The latter follows a woman searching an uncharted island for her missing mother while uncovering secrets tied to her own family.

Netflix is also bringing back Haunted Hotel for its second season as part of its October television slate.

Hulu and Disney+

Huluween returns with another substantial Halloween lineup.

One of the biggest releases comes immediately. American Horror Story: 13 premieres October 1 with three episodes and brings several familiar faces back to the long-running FX anthology, including Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange and Evan Peters.

Hulu’s October 1 catalog additions also include Barbarian, The Empty Man, Hereditary, The Hills Have Eyes 2 and several Ghostbusters movies.

Coven Academy premieres October 2, bringing another supernatural series into Hulu’s Halloween programming.

Disney+ subscribers with access to Hulu programming will also see portions of that Halloween slate integrated into the broader Disney streaming ecosystem.

Peacock

Peacock is making a serious run at being one of October’s largest mainstream horror destinations.

Its October catalog includes 28 Weeks Later, American Psycho, The Crazies, Fright Night, The Grudge, Hannibal, Hostel, House of 1000 Corpses, Jennifer’s Body, Krampus, The Last Exorcism, Paranormal Activity, The Ring, Saw, Scream, Silent Hill, Sinister, The Strangers and Train to Busan.

There are also multiple entries from franchises including Phantasm and Paranormal Activity.

The biggest attraction, however, is new programming.

Disclosure Day reaches Peacock October 9.

Then comes one of the most anticipated horror television projects of the year.

A24’s Crystal Lake premieres October 15, expanding the mythology surrounding Friday the 13th and Camp Crystal Lake through Pamela Voorhees.

For fans who would rather spend October with television, Peacock’s existing genre library also includes series such as Hysteria!, Teacup and Darknet.

Shudder and AMC+

October is essentially Shudder’s Super Bowl.

The horror-focused streamer has built its Season of Screams around premieres throughout the month.

Curse of the Ghoul Logs starts things October 1, followed by Infirmary October 2. The latter uses bodycam footage to explore the disappearance of a security guard inside an abandoned psychiatric hospital.

Then the tapes start rolling again.

V/H/S/Mixtape — October 9

The ninth entry in the V/H/S franchise uses music and sound as connective tissue for another collection of found-footage nightmares.

Contributors include Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau and Renee Zhan, with GWAR also involved in the project.

Hallowarrior — October 16

Milly Shapiro stars as Pumpkin, the last surviving girl following a plague that has devastated humanity.

The Cycle — October 23

This one should already be familiar to Horror Movies Uncut readers following our Fantastic Fest coverage.

Jordan Downey’s The Cycle stars Deborah Ann Woll and Jeffrey Donovan and begins with the discovery of a corpse at a horrifying crime scene before investigators turn to the victim’s estranged daughter for answers.

October 23 also brings Joe Bob’s Halloween House Party.

The 2026 FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards stream October 25, followed by Season 7 of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula on October 27.

Big Baby arrives October 30 before Hunting Matthew Nichols closes out the month on Halloween.

AMC+ subscribers will have access to the Shudder slate alongside additional programming including Kill Jackie and YAGA.

Prime Video

Prime Video is leaning heavily into horror history this October.

Its October 1 additions include The Amityville Horror, Bodies Bodies Bodies, The Boy, Bride of Frankenstein, Candyman, Child’s Play, Creature From the Black Lagoon, Dracula, Frankenstein, Hereditary, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Krampus, Lifeforce, MaXXXine, Midsommar, Pearl, The Pope’s Exorcist, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, The Witch and X.

All three seasons of Chucky arrive October 4.

Then Mike Flanagan’s Carrie becomes available in full October 7, giving Stephen King’s story another major screen adaptation.

Scream 7 joins Prime Video October 16, followed by The Bride! October 23 and Amazon Original Apocalypse Z: New World October 30.

HBO Max

HBO Max’s strength this October is its catalog.

The service is adding a substantial Nightmare on Elm Street collection alongside The Exorcist, The Shining, Trick ’r Treat, Poltergeist, Freaks, House on Haunted Hill, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Final Destination 3 and Coraline.

That’s on top of an existing horror library that includes titles from the Evil Dead and Conjuring franchises alongside Carrie, Hereditary, Midsommar, Companion, Weapons and Sinners.

If the goal is an old-fashioned Halloween marathon rather than keeping up with new releases, HBO Max has plenty to work with.

Paramount+

Paramount+ is countering with franchises of its own.

Its horror library includes movies from Friday the 13th, Scream and Scary Movie, alongside Stephen King adaptations and genre staples including Jacob’s Ladder, Pet Sematary, Silver Bullet, The Dead Zone, Graveyard Shift, The Ruins, The Faculty, Event Horizon, It Follows, Parasite, Doctor Sleep, Drag Me to Hell, Rosemary’s Baby, Smile, Smile 2 and The Autopsy of Jane Doe.

The television side gets another major addition just before Halloween when Dexter: Resurrection returns for Season 2 on October 30.

Free Horror Streaming in October

You do not need six streaming subscriptions to have a great Halloween.

That’s an increasingly important part of the October streaming landscape.

Several free, ad-supported platforms have horror libraries capable of competing with paid services, and October gives viewers an opportunity to bounce between them instead of continually adding subscriptions.

Tubi

Tubi’s annual Terror on Tubi programming returns with original programming and a deep free catalog.

One of its most interesting projects is Bite Size Terror, an anthology built around ten short horror stories covering supernatural horror, monsters, body horror, the occult, dark comedy and the macabre.

R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2 premieres October 9, with Cassandra Peterson joining the sequel as Cassandra, a witch who may hold the answer to stopping the curse threatening Redhaven.

Season 2 of The Haunted Estate arrives October 16, followed by zombie series Creepers October 22.

Tubi’s October catalog also includes movies such as Ready or Not and X.

For anyone who wants to spend October watching horror without paying for another service, Tubi should be one of the first places to look.

Pluto TV

Pluto TV has assembled more than 200 on-demand horror movies for its Halloween programming.

One major focus is Scream, with multiple entries in Wes Craven’s franchise represented.

There’s also a Camp Crystal Lake collection spanning much of the original Friday the 13th series, plus the first three Sleepaway Camp movies.

Found-footage fans can dive into Paranormal Activity, while Stephen King adaptations include Cujo, The Dead Zone, The Dark Half, Maximum Overdrive, Pet Sematary, Secret Window, Graveyard Shift, Silver Bullet and Thinner.

Other notable titles include Smile, Hereditary, Midsommar, It Follows, Talk to Me, X, Pearl, MaXXXine, The Ring, World War Z, 10 Cloverfield Lane and Resident Evil.

Pluto is also scheduling Friday-night horror double features throughout October.

And because Pluto operates FAST channels alongside on-demand programming, viewers can either pick something themselves or simply turn on a horror channel and let it run.

Fawesome

Fawesome deserves considerably more attention from horror fans than it usually receives.

The completely free service has built a dedicated Fawesome Frights destination for Halloween.

Its current Halloween Watchlist includes recognizable genre titles such as Halloween, The Evil Dead, Terrifier, Terrifier 2, All Hallows’ Eve 2, 3 From Hell, House of 1000 Corpses, The Jester, The Fog, Tales of Halloween and the uncut version of Friday the 13th.

The platform’s newer additions include Dracula, Frankenstein, The Shade, The Lair of the White Worm, The Haunting in Connecticut, All You Need Is Blood and Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire.

That’s a surprisingly diverse lineup.

Slashers, classics, supernatural horror, indie releases and modern gore are all represented, making Fawesome another legitimate free option for an October marathon.

Xumo Play

Xumo Play is another free platform that shouldn’t get lost underneath Tubi and Pluto.

Its horror and thriller programming includes Resident Evil, Attack the Block, Starve Acre, Ghosts of Mars, Horns, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, The Witch, Under the Skin, Teeth, Maximum Overdrive, Children of the Corn and Creepshow 2.

Xumo also carries dedicated FAST channels including Xumo Free Horror & Thriller Movies and FilmRise Horror.

That makes it particularly useful for viewers who want the old-school experience of putting on a horror channel rather than spending 30 minutes scrolling through menus.

Xumo Free Horror & Thriller Movies

Plex

Plex isn’t only a personal media server anymore.

Its free ad-supported streaming service has developed a sizable rotating movie catalog, and horror is well represented during October.

Current highlights include Sinister, Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin and Robert Eggers’ The Witch.

Because Plex’s free catalog rotates, this is another service worth checking throughout the month rather than only on October 1.

Plex

FilmRise Horror

FilmRise operates one of the more interesting free genre libraries.

Its horror offerings include titles such as The Wailing, Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, Willy’s Wonderland, Better Watch Out, Howl and Red Lights.

FilmRise programming is also distributed across several FAST ecosystems, meaning viewers may encounter its dedicated horror channel through services such as Roku and Xumo rather than through a standalone subscription.

That’s part of what makes FAST streaming different from traditional streaming. The same curated channel can appear across multiple platforms.

The Roku Channel

The Roku Channel remains another major free streaming destination worth checking throughout October.

Its rotating ad-supported catalog includes movies and television alongside live FAST channels, and Roku users can access additional free horror programming through services and channels available within its ecosystem.

Because availability can rotate throughout the month, we’ll continue monitoring Roku’s Halloween additions rather than treating October 1 as a final catalog.

Screambox and Cineverse

The smaller genre services aren’t sitting October out.

Screambox gets Creature of the Pines October 13, a found-footage movie following documentary filmmakers investigating disappearances in New Jersey’s Pine Barrens.

On October 23, the service adds the 1984 British horror-comedy Bloodbath at the House of Death, starring Vincent Price.

Elsewhere within Cineverse, Fandor receives Avalon Fast’s Camp October 1 and In the Mouth October 6, while Midnight Pulp gets Peeping Todd October 13.

Bloodstream

Bloodstream is another service HMU readers should keep on the radar.

The horror-focused streaming platform emphasizes independent genre filmmaking and provides a useful alternative to the increasingly consolidated libraries of the major streamers.

For Horror Movies Uncut, there’s another reason we’ll be following it closely throughout October: Bloodstream is an HMU affiliate partner.

We’ll be highlighting noteworthy additions and discoveries from its catalog throughout the month, particularly independent horror that may not receive the same visibility on the major platforms.

Affiliate disclosure: Horror Movies Uncut is a Bloodstream affiliate and may receive compensation from qualifying subscriptions made through HMU links.

So, What Should You Subscribe To?

The answer may be that you don’t need to subscribe to anything new.

October 2026 demonstrates just how fragmented horror streaming has become, but that fragmentation also gives fans options.

Want new and independent horror? Shudder remains essential territory.

Want the year’s biggest horror television premieres? Peacock, Prime Video, Hulu and Netflix all have something significant.

Want classics and franchises? HBO Max, Paramount+ and Peacock have deep libraries.

Want independent genre discoveries? Bloodstream, Screambox and Cineverse deserve attention.

And if you don’t want another monthly charge?

Start with Tubi, Pluto TV, Fawesome, Xumo Play, Plex, FilmRise and The Roku Channel. Add Kanopy and Hoopla if your local library participates, and you could realistically make it from October 1 through Halloween without paying for another streaming service.

That’s the goal of the Horror Movies Uncut Streaming Guide.

Not simply telling you what’s on Netflix.

We’re tracking where horror lives.

Check back throughout October as HMU updates the guide with new releases, surprise drops, free-streaming discoveries and the movies and shows worth moving to the top of your Halloween watchlist.

Keep the lights on.
