Craig Singer’s upcoming horror film The Block has wrapped production, with Deadline revealing the first look at Jack Falahee in the lead role of a successful horror writer whose search for inspiration takes a deadly turn.

According to Deadline, Falahee stars as Mitch James, a writer at the height of his career who becomes caught in what is described as a murderous case of writer’s block. His creative crisis becomes further complicated by an obsessive relationship with a fan-turned-girlfriend, played by Saphira Moran, as the situation begins to spiral toward violence.

The film follows the once-successful horror writer into a psychological exploration of the creative process, placing Mitch within a recurring cycle of creation and destruction as his work, relationships and concerns about his legacy begin to converge.

Singer directs The Block from a screenplay by Robert Dean Klein. The pair previously collaborated on the horror film 6:45, starring Michael Reed, Armen Garo and Augie Duke.

“I’ve been developing The Block for many years,” Singer told Deadline. “The original idea – what an artist is compelled to go through to secure their art and legacy – has always intrigued me and feels even more urgent in 2026.”

Singer also pointed to the rapidly changing role of artificial intelligence in creative industries as part of the film’s contemporary relevance.

“Today’s rapidly evolving, AI-driven creative landscape forces creators at every level to make artistic choices and face challenges on a scale we’ve never seen,” Singer said. “The timing couldn’t be more relevant. The Block isn’t about jump scares; it’s a philosophic fable for our times.”

Falahee leads an ensemble cast that includes Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Shutter Island), Thomas G. Waites (The Thing), Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), Chris Noth (Sex and the City), Armen Garo (Dexter: New Blood), Michael Rodrick (General Hospital), Elias Koteas (Chicago P.D.) and Carrie Jo Crosby.

Falahee is widely known for his role as Connor Walsh on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder and recently appeared onstage in Death of a Salesman.

The Block is a co-production between Singer’s U.S.-based Cascrator Films and Australian production company Three777 Films. The latter previously co-produced Beast, starring Russell Crowe, as well as the slasher film The Only One, starring Mel Jarnson and Moran.

Singer, a former creative vice president at Disney, has worked across independent and genre filmmaking, with The Block continuing his collaboration with Klein while turning its attention toward artistic obsession and the pressures surrounding the creative process.

The first-look image accompanying Deadline’s report puts Falahee’s Mitch James at the center of that story as his inability to create begins intersecting with increasingly destructive events around him.

With filming now complete, The Block has moved into post-production. A premiere date and release plans have not yet been announced.
