Sol Rodríguez & Lou Lou Safran Enter a Psychedelic Vampire Nightmare in Giallo-Infused Horror Illomen

Another striking new genre title is emerging from the indie horror underground, and this one looks primed to leave a mark.

Peacemaker breakout Sol Rodríguez and Annabelle franchise standout Lou Lou Safran are set to star in the psychedelic vampire home-invasion horror Illomen, a bold, giallo-inspired feature that has officially wrapped production in Los Angeles. The film is directed and co-written by Nathalia Pizarro, whose previous work (The Girl on a Motorcycle) helped establish her as a filmmaker to watch in modern genre cinema.

Described as a visceral, maximalist collision of beauty and terror, Illomen follows a young widow whose reality begins to fracture after a sudden tragedy, pulling her into a dangerous confrontation with a mysterious, century-old vampire. The film also stars Booboo Stewart (Twilight, X-Men), expanding its genre lineage even further.

“This film was designed to be felt as much as seen,” Pizarro said in a statement. “By embracing a saturated, giallo-influenced palette and a visceral, hands-on visual language, Illomen pushes classical genre into a raw, maximalist space between beauty and annihilation.”

That aesthetic ambition extends behind the camera as well. The film was shot by Brent Mata, with special makeup effects handled by Vincent Van Dyke (Halloween, Nope). Costumes come from Chantal Thomas, Oscar-nominated for Everything Everywhere All At Once, while production design was led by David Dean Ebert. Music supervision is handled by Alix Brown, ensuring the film’s sensory overload extends into sound as well as image.

The supporting cast reads like a genre fan’s fever dream, including Joshua Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Cameron Cowperthwaite (Fallout), Bonnie Aarons (The Nun), Tayler Buck (Annabelle: Creation), Fivel Stewart (Atypical), Jesse Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal), and a special appearance by The Black Lips as the OldBoys Bar Band.

Illomen is produced by HasBeen Productions, New American Picture Show, and Intrinsic Value Films, with producers including Brent Mata, Dax Campbell, Megan Freels Johnston, Aimee Schoof, Isen Robbins, and Max Neace. The screenplay was written by Alex Baumgardner, Nathalia Pizarro, and Talar Baker, based on a story by Mata.

With its fusion of vampire mythology, psychedelic giallo aesthetics, and intimate psychological horror, Illomen is shaping up to be a festival standout. The film is currently targeting a festival run next year, and it’s firmly one to keep on your radar if you’re drawn to bold, sensory-forward horror that isn’t afraid to get strange.

We’ll be watching closely as Illomen begins its journey into the genre circuit.
