‘Insidious 6’ Director Jacob Chase Reteams With Blumhouse Atomic Monster for ‘Sleepover’

Jacob Chase is set to reunite with Blumhouse Atomic Monster for the large-scale horror film Sleepover, arriving in theaters October 8, 2027.

The filmmaker behind Insidious: Out of the Further is set to reunite with Blumhouse Atomic Monster for Sleepover, a new large-scale horror project being presented by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The film is set to arrive in theaters October 8, 2027.

The project was already attached to a previously reserved 2027 date for an untitled Blumhouse Atomic Monster release, with Chase now stepping into the director’s chair.

Sleepover will be based on an original short story by Bryce McGuire, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chase. McGuire previously wrote and directed Night Swim, another Blumhouse-connected supernatural horror project.

The film is being described as the “quintessential sleepover nightmare,” though specific plot details remain under wraps. That leaves the title and its premise to do plenty of work on their own, particularly given Chase’s recent move deeper into franchise horror.

Jason Blum will produce, with Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequeira executive producing. Lilly Tyson is overseeing the project for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Sleepover is being produced by Cinescape Entertainment.

The announcement comes immediately after Insidious: Out of the Further delivered a strong opening weekend, taking in $60.3 million worldwide. The latest entry in the 16-year-old Insidious franchise brings the series’ worldwide box office total to approximately $800 million.

While Out of the Further was released through Sony’s Screen Gems and Stage 6, Chase’s new project represents a continuation of his relationship with the Blumhouse Atomic Monster team.

For Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the move also reunites two filmmakers with established connections to the company’s horror slate. McGuire’s Night Swim explored supernatural horror through a familiar domestic setting, while Chase’s Insidious entry expands the mythology of one of the studio’s longest-running genre franchises.

Now, the filmmakers are turning their attention to another horror setting with built-in familiarity: the sleepover.

And if the description of Sleepover as the “quintessential sleepover nightmare” is any indication, the childhood tradition may be getting a considerably darker makeover.

Sleepover is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters October 8, 2027, from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
