Kevin Bacon is headed back into the horror genre.

The veteran actor has officially signed on to star in Summoner, a new horror thriller from Amazon MGM that will mark the feature directorial debut of longtime genre writer Jeremy Slater.

Slater has become one of the industry's most recognizable genre storytellers thanks to his work on Moon Knight, The Umbrella Academy, The Exorcist, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and most recently Mortal Kombat II.

Now, he is stepping behind the camera for his first feature film.

According to reports, Summoner will follow exorcist Jefferson Haddock, played by Bacon, who is called to an isolated witness protection property to confront a terrifying demonic presence. What begins as a routine assignment quickly spirals out of control when Haddock accidentally unleashes a force capable of destroying everything around him.

Production is expected to begin this fall.

The project also boasts an impressive producing team. Horror filmmaker Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti will produce through their Nocturna banner alongside Russell Ackerman. Nocturna recently backed They Will Kill You, which was released earlier this year.

Dan Kagan, one of the producers behind Longlegs, will serve as executive producer.

For horror fans, the combination of Slater's genre background and Bacon's extensive filmography immediately makes this one to watch.

While Bacon has become known in recent years for elevating projects with memorable supporting performances, he has quietly continued to build an impressive résumé within horror and thriller spaces. Most recently, he appeared in the acclaimed miniseries Sirens and led Amazon Prime Video's supernatural series The Bondsman.

He also recently reunited with wife Kyra Sedgwick for the horror-comedy project Family Movie, which featured their children Travis Bacon and Sosie Bacon.

Slater, meanwhile, has established himself as one of Hollywood's go-to writers for high-concept genre storytelling. Between comic book adaptations, monster films, and supernatural dramas, Summoner feels like a natural evolution of his career.

The premise itself also sounds tailor-made for horror audiences.

An isolated location. A dangerous exorcism. A demon that was never supposed to be unleashed.

Sometimes that's all you need.

With Amazon MGM, the Muschiettis, and Kevin Bacon attached, Summoner is already shaping up to be one of the more intriguing horror projects entering production this year.
