A new player is stepping into the theatrical horror space.
According to Variety, digital entertainment company Kuku is making its feature film debut with Indian Institute of Zombies, a Hindi-language horror comedy set for a May 8, 2026 theatrical release.
The film unfolds on an elite engineering campus, blending zombie horror with youth-driven comedy and social satire. The project is directed by Gaganjeet Singh and Alok Dwivedi, with a script from Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal.
Kuku, known primarily for its audio and digital storytelling platforms, is positioning the film as a strategic expansion into theatrical distribution. The move signals a growing trend of digital-first companies stepping into genre filmmaking, using horror as a gateway into wider audiences.
While zombie films remain a familiar lane, Indian Institute of Zombies leans into a campus setting and regional voice that could help it stand apart in an increasingly globalized horror market.
The film is currently slated for a wide theatrical rollout in India.
