"LongLegs" - movie review

Osgood Perkins' "Longlegs" takes a classic approach to the serial killer genre, weaving in the age-old theory of a Satanic panic. The film is a visual feast, with stylized kills that are both chilling and memorable. Nicolas Cage delivers an undeniable performance, bringing a unique intensity to his role that stands out as one of the film's major highlights.

Narratively, "Longlegs" leans heavily into the Satanic theme, perhaps to a fault. While the idea that Satan could be behind such killings is intriguing, the film's execution feels overly embellished. The reliance on this trope makes it seem as though we haven't moved far from the narratives of classics like "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Omen." In an era where viewers crave more sophisticated storytelling, this feels somewhat outdated.

Despite the film's creative and stylized direction, it lacks the substance needed to elevate it from good to great. The story could have benefited from deeper, more nuanced plot developments to create a more well-rounded and impactful experience.

Overall, "Longlegs" is a visually striking film with standout performances, but its narrative shortcomings prevent it from reaching its full potential.
