Luke Sparke is back, and this time the monsters are everywhere. Following his explosive Primitive War, the Australian filmmaker trades the open battlefield for the suffocating tunnels of a crumbling city in his one-shot horror-sci-fi hybrid Scurry. The film is now available to rent or own on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and other digital platforms, with a limited theatrical run currently underway.
Scurry premiered at the 2024 Sydney Film Festival, where audiences were thrown headfirst into a nightmare of genetically altered creatures and relentless claustrophobia. Starring Jamie Costa and Emalia, the film follows two strangers trapped beneath a devastated city after an unthinkable attack. Wounded, disoriented, and fighting for air, they soon realize that the tunnels around them aren’t just collapsing—they’re alive with something monstrous and hungry.

Shot entirely in real time as a single continuous take, Scurry delivers an immersive, nerve-shredding experience that refuses to let viewers breathe. The film channels Sparke’s passion for classic creature features while showcasing a bold, modern approach to suspense and survival storytelling.
Sparke—best known for Occupation, Occupation: Rainfall, and the recent Primitive War—describes the project as both a technical challenge and a love letter to monster cinema:
“At its heart, Scurry is about survival in an environment that turns against you,” Sparke shared ahead of the U.S. release. “Being trapped, isolated, and hunted taps into the primal fears we all share. Every shadow, every creak, every breathless moment is designed to pull the audience deeper into the chaos.”
With its mix of practical tension, single-take intensity, and gnarly creature effects, Scurry promises an old-school horror thrill dressed in a new cinematic skin. It’s Sparke’s most visceral outing yet—a real-time descent into panic that’s equal parts emotional and feral.
If the trailer is any indication, this one’s going to be a monster feast for the senses.
