‘Crawlers’ Trailer Unleashes a Venomous Spider Infestation With Matilda Lutz Trapped Inside

If you have a problem with spiders, the official trailer for Crawlers probably isn’t going to make your October watchlist any easier.

Roadside Attractions and Saban Films have released the official trailer and poster for the upcoming creature horror film, which sends Matilda Lutz into an apartment building overrun by an increasingly uncontrollable infestation of venomous spiders.

Directed by Ángel Gómez Hernández from a screenplay by Jayson Rothwell, Crawlers arrives exclusively in theaters on October 16, 2026.

The film follows Serena (Lutz), the manager of an apartment complex suddenly placed under a police-mandated quarantine after a catastrophic spider infestation breaks out inside.

That means nobody is getting out.

With residents trapped and the spiders multiplying by the second, Serena is forced to use her intimate knowledge of the building to navigate the complex and find a way to keep everyone alive. There is just one significant problem: surviving means confronting her own deepest fear.

The trailer wastes very little time establishing what kind of nightmare audiences are walking into. Spiders crawl through the building, residents scramble for safety, and the confined apartment setting turns into an increasingly claustrophobic battleground.

And yes, it’s difficult to watch the footage without thinking about Infested.

Sébastien Vaniček’s French spider horror was one of the stronger genre releases of the last few years, similarly using an apartment building to trap its characters inside an escalating arachnid nightmare. Crawlers certainly appears to occupy some of that same territory, although we’ll have to see what Hernández does to distinguish his film once the entire story unfolds.

What is becoming increasingly clear is that spider horror is having a moment again.

From Infested to Sting and other recent creature features, filmmakers have been rediscovering how effective real-world animals can be as horror antagonists. There is no elaborate mythology required. For plenty of people, seeing hundreds of spiders pouring through the walls is already more terrifying than anything supernatural Hollywood could invent.

Lutz also gives Crawlers a recognizable genre lead. Following films including Revenge and The Substance, she once again finds herself at the center of a story demanding some serious survival instincts.

The film is produced by Scott Strauss, Peter Welter, Jayson Rothwell, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Josh Weinstock, and Alexandra Milchan, with Andrew Schwartzberg, Jon Shiffman, and Diarmaid McGrath serving as executive producers.

Whether Crawlers can separate itself from the recent wave of arachnid horror remains to be seen, but the trailer certainly understands the assignment: lock everyone inside, multiply the spiders, and make the audience increasingly uncomfortable about whatever might be crawling underneath their theater seat.

Crawlers opens in theaters October 16, 2026, from Roadside Attractions and Saban Films.
