NEON Releases First Image from Damien McCarthy’s New Horror Film Starring Adam Scott — Expected May 1, 2026
NEON has released the first official image from Damien McCarthy’s upcoming horror feature, starring Adam Scott, David Wilmot, Austin Amelio, Florence Ordish, Peter Koonin, Michael Patrick, Will O’Connell, Sue Carroll, Mallory Adams, and Ezra Carlyle. The film, titled Hocum, follows a horror writer who travels to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, unaware that the property is rumored to be haunted by a witch.
The debut image, revealed this afternoon, shows Adam Scott looking terrified inside what appears to be one of the inn’s older, dimly lit rooms. He’s holding a lantern out in front of him — the kind of classic setup you expect in a story built on folklore — with something clearly frightening him just outside the frame. It’s exactly the type of first look you’d expect from McCarthy: atmospheric, suggestive, and giving away nothing.
NEON hasn’t released additional details, which isn’t surprising. When it comes to their supernatural and mystery-driven titles, the rollout is typically slow, cryptic, and intentionally limited. With McCarthy involved — whose breakout film Oddity became one of HMU’s favorite horror releases of last year — there’s every expectation the studio will continue teasing only what they absolutely have to until we get closer to release.
As of now, Hocum is expected to premiere on May 1, 2026. McCarthy’s signature style of tension, folklore, and unsettling practical imagery appears to be returning in full force, and with Scott leading the cast, this film already carries strong interest before the first trailer has even been mentioned.
More updates will follow as NEON begins its slow drip of details.
