New Regency Secures Erotic Thriller Fixation in Competitive Deal
New Regency is on a hot streak, and their latest move is another one to watch. The studio has officially acquired the rights to Fixation, an original erotic thriller from writers Erika Vázquez and Siena Butterfield (Wednesday). The project will be produced alongside Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories in what insiders describe as a highly competitive deal.
A Dangerous Game of Desire and Deception
Fixation follows a couple’s therapist who finds themselves pulled into a dangerous triangle of lust, lies, and manipulation. Plot details are under wraps, but early buzz suggests plenty of twists and a fresh take on psychological erotic tension.
The spec script has been drawing attention across Hollywood for months, making this a major win for New Regency.
The Power Players Behind
Fixation
This is the second collaboration between Papandrea (Big Little Lies, Gone Girl) and New Regency, reuniting the powerhouse producer with the studio following David Fincher’s Gone Girl.
Papandrea will produce alongside Steve Hutensky, Jeanne Snow, and Claudia Park for Made Up Stories. The project also marks a second link-up between Papandrea and New Regency’s Nirokhi Raychaudhuri, who previously worked on Luckiest Girl Alive during their time at Netflix.
Writer’s reps include Josh Goldenberg and Quincie Li (Kaplan/Perrone), as well as Jonathan Martin (Gersh).
Momentum at New Regency
The deal builds on a strong year for New Regency. Recent acquisitions and projects include:
They’re Still Here by Stephen Herman with Phantom Four (Antlers) and Good Fear (Mulan).
Blood Meridian, directed by John Hillcoat and written by John Logan.
Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs starring Tom Blyth and Sophie Wilde.
Psycho Killer starring Georgina Campbell.
Steve McQueen’s Blitz (Apple TV+).
The Bikeriders (Focus Features).
Alex Gibney’s untitled Elon Musk documentary (HBO).
2073, directed by Oscar winner Asif Kapadia.
Jimi, a Hendrix documentary from Bao Nguyen.
On the television side, New Regency continues to push into prestige territory with the Emmy-winning Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Prime Video, Season 2), a Malcolm in the Middle limited series (Disney), Man on Fire (Netflix), and Prime Target starring Leo Woodall (Apple TV+).
Why It Matters
Erotic thrillers are quietly staging a comeback, and Fixation could be the next breakout hit in a genre that hasn’t had this much buzz since the 90s. With Bruna Papandrea’s sharp instincts and New Regency’s aggressive slate, this is a project horror and thriller fans should keep on their radar.
HMU will keep tracking Fixation as it develops—expect casting news and more production updates soon.
