‘No Rest for the Wicked’ Trailer Arrives Ahead of U.S. Premiere at Fantastic Fest 2026
The first trailer tied to this week’s Fantastic Fest 2026 lineup announcement has arrived, with Kasper Kalle’s Gothic vampire drama No Rest for the Wicked preparing for its U.S. premiere at the Austin genre festival.
The film comes to Fantastic Fest following its recent appearance at the Fantasia International Film Festival, giving festival audiences another opportunity to see the period horror film as it continues its run through the 2026 circuit.
Directed by Kalle and written by Rasmus Birch and Kalle, No Rest for the Wicked stars Egor Venned and Pilou Asbæk alongside Sofia Nolsøe, Héloïse Volle and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson. Lars Bredo Rahbek serves as producer, with Lars Bjørn Hansen executive producing.
Set on the Faroe Islands in 1862, the film follows Baldur, a fisherman living an isolated life in the North Atlantic. His routine changes with the arrival of Helge, a whaler whose presence leads to a growing attraction between the two men. Their relationship develops against the expectations of the surrounding community, while a tragedy brings supernatural forces into their increasingly complicated circumstances.
No Rest for the Wicked is based on the 1884 short story “Manor” by German author Karl Heinrich Ulrichs. The adaptation combines its period setting and central relationship with Gothic horror and vampire mythology, placing the story within the remote landscape of the Faroe Islands.
As shown in the newly released trailer, Kalle’s film approaches its supernatural material through period imagery and the isolation of its setting, with the relationship between Baldur and Helge providing the foundation for the story as tensions develop within the surrounding community.
The Fantastic Fest screening marks the latest stop for the film following its Fantasia appearance. The 2026 Fantastic Fest lineup includes 73 features and episodic presentations, with No Rest for the Wicked among the festival’s U.S. premieres.
Fantastic Fest takes place September 17-24 at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, Texas.
