Jorma Taccone is back in the director’s chair, and if the first trailer for OVER YOUR DEAD BODY is any indication, audiences are in for a blood-soaked marital meltdown when the film hits theaters nationwide April 24, 2026.
Exclusively debuting in theaters after its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 14, OVER YOUR DEAD BODY teams Taccone — the Saturday Night Live alum and Lonely Island member behind Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and MacGruber — with a cast that understands exactly how to weaponize charm.
Jason Segel and Samara Weaving star as a dysfunctional couple retreating to a remote cabin under the pretense of reconnecting. The catch? Each arrives with secret plans to kill the other. What unfolds, at least from the trailer’s tone, is a dark, twisted action-comedy where romance meets premeditation and the getaway weekend turns into a deadly chess match.
Joining Segel and Weaving is a stacked ensemble including Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle, and Keith Jardine. With that lineup alone, it’s clear this isn’t a quiet two-hander — this is chaos with witnesses.
Scott Shooman, Head of the Independent Film Group, praised Taccone as “one of the most creative and reliably brilliant voices in comedy,” adding that the film is “a dark, twisted, and riotous action comedy, with a killer cast – a perfect recipe to delight audiences on the big screen.” That description tracks. The trailer leans into absurdist violence, escalating paranoia, and a tone that feels like Mr. & Mrs. Smith by way of MacGruber’s deranged cousin.
Taccone’s comedic instincts have always thrived in heightened situations, and OVER YOUR DEAD BODY looks ready to push that formula into even more savage territory. Segel’s affable everyman energy clashing with Weaving’s razor-sharp unpredictability feels like a deliberate pairing — one built for escalating tension and explosive payoff.
With SXSW serving as the launchpad and a theatrical rollout set for April 24, OVER YOUR DEAD BODY positions itself as one of the year’s most gleefully unhinged date-night movies. Love hurts. Sometimes intentionally.
We’ll have more from SXSW as the premiere approaches.
