Parker Finn’s Possession Remake Sets June 2027 Theatrical Release
Paramount Pictures has officially dated its highly anticipated remake of Possession, with Parker Finn set to bring a new interpretation of the 1981 cult horror classic to theaters on June 11, 2027.
The remake stars Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley in the lead roles originally portrayed by Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani in Andrzej Żuławski’s acclaimed psychological horror.
The film will open nationwide against Universal Pictures’ How to Train Your Dragon 2, giving horror audiences a major genre release to look forward to next summer.
Finn, who wrote and directed both Smile films, is writing and directing the new adaptation. He also serves as producer alongside Jonathan Fass through Bad Feeling, Roy Lee and Andrew Childs for Vertigo Entertainment, and Robert Pattinson, with Marc Bienstock executive producing.
Joining Turner and Qualley is a supporting cast that includes Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Paul Dano.
Released in 1981, the original Possession followed a married couple living in Cold War-era West Berlin as their relationship deteriorated into psychological and supernatural horror. The film has since become one of the defining works of arthouse horror, with Isabelle Adjani earning the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance.
While plot details for Finn’s adaptation remain under wraps, the casting and creative team have made it one of the more closely watched horror projects currently in development.
The June 2027 release calendar is also beginning to take shape around Possession. One week earlier, on June 4, Sony’s Columbia Pictures will release JT Mollner’s horror film Skeletons starring Brie Larson, while the following weekend, on June 18, Columbia returns with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
