A new genre-bending thriller has arrived with a deadly twist on discipline and performance.
Pretty Lethal, directed by Vicky Jewson, is now streaming globally on Prime Video as of Wednesday, March 25, bringing together a young ensemble cast led by Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, Avantika and Millicent Simmonds, alongside Uma Thurman.
The film follows five ballerinas traveling to a prestigious dance competition whose journey is derailed when their bus breaks down in a remote forest. Stranded and with few options, they take shelter at a secluded roadside inn run by Devora Kasimer, a mysterious former ballet prodigy played by Thurman. What begins as an uneasy refuge quickly turns into a fight for survival.
Jewson’s concept leans into the physicality and precision of ballet, transforming it into a weaponized survival language. The film blends action, horror, and dark comedy, using the dancers’ training as both a narrative device and a visual signature.
“In Pretty Lethal, I wanted to bring the highly specific skillset of a ballerina to the action space,” Jewson said. “We created a world built on the broken dreams of a dancer… The troupe embraces teamwork, sisterhood and ballet-fu in order to stay alive.”
The release follows a Cosmopolitan-hosted screening attended by members of the cast, including Ziegler, Condor, Avantika, Apatow and Simmonds, alongside Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Willa Bennett and senior entertainment director Maxwell Losgar.
With its blend of stylized movement and genre tension, Pretty Lethal positions itself as a high-concept entry in the evolving action-horror space, where character-driven skillsets are becoming central to survival storytelling.
