The beast has been unleashed.
After tearing through its Fantastic Fest 2024 world premiere, Johannes Roberts’ (47 Meters Down, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) latest creature feature PRIMATE is ready to take a bite out of the big screen. Paramount Pictures has just released the official trailer and poster for the film ahead of its nationwide release on January 9, 2026.
Fans of Cujo, Link, and Congo will find a lot to love here — PRIMATE resurrects the feral spirit of classic animal horror, dripping with Roberts’ signature claustrophobic tension and visceral energy.
The film stars Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, Troy Kotsur, Victoria Wyatt, Gia Hunter, Benjamin Cheng, Charlie Mann, and Tienne Simon. It follows a group of researchers who find themselves trapped in an isolated jungle compound when their experiments take a savage, blood-soaked turn.
Horror Movies Uncut was on the red carpet at Fantastic Fest to speak with Roberts, Sequoyah, and Kotsur about the film’s primal inspirations and the chaos behind its production. As we said in our Fantastic Fest 2025 Review of Primate, the movie is a “bloody, entertaining collision of Cujo and Monkey Shines energy — pure, pulpy fun that reminds you why animal horror still rules the food chain.”
For fans in St. Louis, Primate will also screen at the St. Louis International Film Festival this fall at the High Point Theatre, with HMU on-site for the event.
Check out the official trailer and poster below — and prepare to go wild when Primate hits theaters January 9, 2026.
