Production is officially underway on Scorpion, a new action-thriller that combines military secrets, psychological tension, and high-stakes survival with an impressive cast led by Reda Elazouar, Alex Pettyfer, and Clive Owen.

The film began principal photography in Cyprus on July 6 and will continue production in Bulgaria through the end of the month.

Directed by Richard Hughes (The Enforcer) and written by Hughes alongside Bennett Fisher (The Passenger), Scorpion centers on a deadly mission gone horribly wrong.

Elazouar, known for his work in The Family Plan 2 and Sex Education, takes on the lead role of Jason, a young police officer assigned to an elite tactical unit comprised of Afghanistan war veterans. What begins as a routine nighttime raid quickly spirals into a nightmare when the team finds itself trapped inside a remote farmhouse with no communication and no way out.

According to the official synopsis, the squad soon discovers they are not alone.

A mysterious voice takes control of the situation and delivers a chilling ultimatum: every thirty minutes, one member of the team will die unless someone confesses to what happened during a classified operation in Afghanistan years earlier.

As tensions rise and secrets begin to surface, the mission transforms into a brutal fight for survival where trust becomes as dangerous as the unseen enemy manipulating events from the shadows.

The setup suggests a blend of military action, psychological suspense, and contained thriller storytelling, placing a group of hardened soldiers in a pressure-cooker scenario where past sins may prove more deadly than any weapon.

Joining Elazouar, Pettyfer, and Owen is a sizable ensemble cast that includes Mark Rhino Smith (Creed), Joey Ansah (The Bourne Ultimatum), Ronan Summers (Guardians of the Galaxy), Alex Cooke (Blacklight), Lea Anderson (Playlist), Anthony Del Negro (Lazy Susan), Luke Bouchier (The Enforcer), and Jake Ryan (War Machine).

Behind the camera, cinematographer Jeremy Rouse (Burden) is handling photography, while production is being overseen by an experienced team of action veterans.

Producers include Copper Island’s Matt Murphie, David Mansfield, and Luke Bouchier alongside Yariv Lerner (Expend4bles), Jib Polhemus (The Mechanic), Patrick Hughes (The Hitman’s Bodyguard), and Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) for Huge Film.

Alex Pettyfer and James Ireland are also producing through Dark Dreams Entertainment, while Michael Lawrence (Bra Boys) serves as executive producer.

With a premise built around buried wartime secrets, moral accountability, and a relentless countdown to death, Scorpion appears poised to deliver both explosive action and psychological tension. The combination of military operators trapped in a confined location and a hidden antagonist forcing confessions immediately evokes elements of siege thrillers and survival horror while maintaining a grounded action framework.

The project is already preparing for its next major milestone. WestEnd Films will handle international sales and is expected to debut first footage from Scorpion to buyers during the Toronto International Film Festival market this September.

As filming continues across Europe, Scorpion is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing action-thrillers currently in production, pairing a strong cast with a premise built on suspense, secrets, and survival.
