Sam Gellaitry and Toro y Moi Connection Curious, a Fall Groove Worth Repeating

There’s something easy and addictive about Curious, the new single from Scottish producer Sam Gellaitry featuring genre-bending favorite Toro y Moi. Released via FFRR and Major Recordings, this track previews Gellaitry’s debut album Anywhere Here is Perfect, arriving November 7.

If you’ve been following Gellaitry’s growth—from SoundCloud beat wizard to fully-formed songwriter—Curious hits like a confident, soulful evolution. It’s also their second collaboration, following EVOL (2022), but this one glides on a different frequency.

The Song:

Curious is a slick blend of future-funk and disco-pop that slides straight into the bloodstream. The production is polished but not sterile. Toro’s laid-back falsetto dances around Sam’s clean synth lines with just the right amount of tension and release. It’s a feel-good banger dressed in restraint—ready for a night out, or the wind-down right after.

The Video:

Directed by Agusta Yr, the karaoke-style video features Toro and Gellaitry hanging out with friends, singing along to their own lyrics projected on screen—exactly the kind of lo-fi, unpretentious vibe this track demands. No narrative, no big concept. Just friends, a projector, and a song worth singing along to.

“Curious is probably the best representation of the different styles of production on the album and how they all lend themselves to pop structure,” Gellaitry said in the official release. “Toro really elevated the whole track and brought a level of sophistication and effortlessness which perfectly balanced the rawness of my vocal take.”

Toro y Moi added, “Sam has a great sense of production and I was very excited to be a part of this track. I love his approach to songwriting.”

The Sound:

Expect elements of disco, glitch-pop, synth-funk, and Gellaitry’s usual melodic stamp. If you’ve ever found yourself somewhere between Chromeo, Tame Impala, and Kaytranada, this track fits comfortably in that world—elevated by Toro y Moi’s signature vibe that turns every track into a cruise.

Verdict: 8/10

A cozy yet confident track. Curious feels like a well-kept secret between two artists who speak the same sonic language. Whether you’re spinning it on a fall night drive or blasting it in the background of a low-lit hang, it’s hard to play this just once.
