Shudder Unleashes First Trailer for Parasomnia, Streaming September 4
A new supernatural nightmare is headed to Shudder this fall.
Shudder has debuted the official trailer for Parasomnia, the latest feature from writer-director James Ross II, with the film set to premiere exclusively on the streaming service on September 4.
The supernatural horror follows Riley, a young woman plagued by relentless night terrors and haunted by an unresolved tragedy from her past. When her best friend suddenly disappears, Riley begins to believe the terrifying figure stalking her dreams has escaped the confines of sleep and entered the real world. As the line between nightmare and reality begins to disappear, she must confront the growing evil before more people vanish.
The film stars Jasmine Mathews, RJ Brown, Sally Stewart, Stephen Barrington, Danny Brown, and Simon Longnight.
Behind the camera, James Ross II reunites with producers Gabrielle Chapman and Pacey Hansen, with cinematography by Christopher Lee Fatt.
For longtime festival followers, Ross has been on the radar for several years. Horror Movies Uncut first met the filmmaker during the Chattanooga Film Festival while he was showcasing one of his early short films. Even then, it was clear that the recent film school graduate possessed a confident visual style and a strong command of suspense.
Seeing Parasomnia land at Shudder feels like a natural next step in that progression.
The newly released trailer leans heavily into psychological dread, unsettling dream imagery, and supernatural tension while teasing a mystery centered on whether Riley’s recurring visions are manifestations of trauma or something far more sinister. Rather than relying on large-scale spectacle, the footage builds its atmosphere through creeping paranoia and the fear that sleep may no longer be a place of safety.
With Shudder continuing to expand its lineup of original horror films, Parasomnia adds another supernatural thriller to the platform’s fall slate while marking James Ross II’s highest-profile release to date.
Parasomnia begins streaming September 4, exclusively on Shudder. Horror fans looking for a supernatural mystery built around nightmares and psychological horror will want to keep this one on their watchlist.
